Actress Tridha Choudhury, who with her very first film Mishawr Rohosyo had made a mark in the Tollywood Film Industry is now relishing the success of her second movie Jodi Love Dile Na Prane where she has played the role of Aaheli a ‘Probashi Bangali’, who walks and talks Bangaliana and comes to Bengal in search of her roots. The beautiful Tridha who has, all this while been juggling her acting career and studies (Microbiology Final Year) has been growing from strength to strength right since her Clean & Clear Fresh Face Hunt days and now that her studies are just about over, she is all set to devote all her time and energy to cinema and right after JLDNP we will get to see this lovely and very talented young actress in Kaushik Ganguly’s New Bengali Film Khad.
Sholoana Bangaliana correspondent caught up with Tridha just as she was hopping out of college to chat with her about her new movies and future plans…Excerpts…
Sholoana Bangaliana: In Director Duo Sudeshna Roy and Abhijit Guha’s new Bengali Movie Jodi Love Dile Na Prane, Aaheli is a Probashi Bangali who is very particular about here Bangaliana but we felt that your Bangla had a slight accent throughout, which was also the case in your first movie Mishawr Rohosyo.. So was this intentional?
Tridha Choudhury: Yes yes very much intentional! Though my Bangla has that little bit of an accent as I have not really read Bangla, I had tried to correct it during the dubbing sessions but was categorically asked not to do so as that accent went well with the character who is a Probashi but tries to hold on to her roots. Moreover this kind of a cosmopolitan accent goes quite well with the Gen Y as this is how most of us speak these days. Don’t we?!
Sholoana Bangaliana: This is the first time that you have worked with Arjun Chakroborty..How was the experience of working with him and how soon do we get to see you both back on screen?
Tridha Choudhury: This would have been my second film with Arjun as initially he was supposed to play Santu in Mishawr Rohosyo but then again as it was destined… This is our first movie together and we had a wonderful time on sets. He is an absolutely brilliant actor and has done complete justice to his role in JLDNP which has undoubtedly added to the movie’s success.
Movies are in the pipeline, not exactly with Arjun right now but as you know, the industry is so dynamic and we never know things might be shaping up as we talk!
Sholoana Bangaliana: How different were the director duo Sudeshna Roy-Abhijit Guha from Srijit Mukherji who had directed you in your very first Bengali Movie? Do you remember any incidents when you were chided by your directors?
Tridha Choudhury: Working with Sudeshna Di and Rana Da was absolutely fantastic as they could really bring the best out of me and at the same time give me my creative liberty. But then again, I am really obliged to Srijit for having made my job as an actor easier as after having worked with him I now understand lights, angles, frames and such finer nuances of cinema quite well..
Well yes, those incidents are quite prominent in my memory… When I was shooting for Mishawr during the winters, for some unknown reason and unconsciously too, I just wouldn’t stand still and kept swaying which obviously was looking quite ugly in a tight frame when I was gruffly asked to either stand still or take time out and warm up a little and then give the shot.
With Sudeshna Di and Rana Da it so happened that in one scene I was asked to lower down my pace of talking and I started speaking so slowly that I started sounding like someone from the Black n White era when I was corrected by my directors and asked to get things right. (Well, I took this as a compliment as you see, that proved that I can even talk like someone from the Black n White era!!)
Sholoana Bangaliana: The movie Jodi Love Dile Na Prane has been extensively shot in the suburbs of Kolkata like Bolpur.. So did you like the ambience there and enjoy working in those areas?
Tridha Choudhury: Yes, that was like a pleasant break for us even during our work schedules. Especially, for Arjun and me as we got to loiter around in the greens in complete peace and enjoy nature at its best on the banks of the Ajoy River. We also visited a Baul Akhada which was my first experience of watching them at work and I will really cherish these memories for life.
Sholoana Bangaliana: The movie Jodi Love Dile Na Prane has been adapted from Sukanto Gangopadhyay’s Abujh Meye.. Have you read the book or were you asked to do so before working in this movie?
Tridha Choudhury: No, I have not read the book but my directors had literally helped me visualize the whole story way before we had started working on the movie and that made things really easy. The director duo Sudeshna Roy and Abhijit Guha also have this great trait of involving people in the entire process of making the film which again makes things very easy. Our understanding of the script or knowledge of characters was not just limited to our own role plays; we were rather told about every body’s roles and characters at length which all the more helped us in customizing our own role plays in sync with that of the others.
Sholoana Bangaliana: You have worked with Kaushik Ganguly as a co-actor in Jodi Love Dile Na Prane and as a director in Khad.. What is it like working with this super-talented man?
Tridha Choudhury: Mr. Ganguly is my neighbor so I have known him forever but then again, when we are working together it is a different kind of relationship altogether. After working with him I can only say that it cannot get easier as he is an absolutely ‘No Nonsense’ kind of a person and knows his work very well. He knows exactly what he wants and even knows how to get that from his actors, veterans and new-comers alike. He as directed me in my next movie Khad where there is an ensemble cast of 16 super talented people from the industry and working with the entire unit was just an awesome experience. The best part was that Mr. Ganguly was always there to help, be it on the sets as a co-actor or as a director and I could always fall back on him for good counsel.
With this, our brief chat with the gorgeous Tridha Choudhury came to an End but our readers can be rest assured that they will soon get to hear more from this chirpy young lady as she shall be back soon to talk about the New Bengali Movie Khad.
Tridha Choudhury in Jodi Love Dile Na Prane is mind blowing as Aaheli and we hope to see her at her glamorous best in her next Bengali Movie too.
