Film Noir seems to have become very popular with Bengali Film directors. After the recent release of Ashok Vishwanathan’s 1+1=3, another director Ayan Chakraborti’s film Shororipu is about to release and that too is based on Film Noir. This genre of film making which draws its origins in Hollywood films of the 1930’s and 1940’s can be characterized by their sense of cynicism, moral ambiguity and fatalistic attitude.
The story of Shororipu begins with breaking news being shown on television. Dead bodies of a couple are discovered in the basement of a parking lot of a hotel. It is assumed that they were smashed. A dead body is also discovered in the hotel room where the dead couple was staying. In an apartment close to the hotel, a man is found dead beside a girl. Detective Chandra and his assistant Konee along with DCP Sharma cracks this case within a span of fifteen days. This leaves many of his colleagues amazed and it is then that he narrates the six vices of human beings, the knowledge of which actually helps him crack this case.
Shororipu boasts of a stellar cast. Chiranjeet Chakraborty who is reportedly breaking his earlier image that he had painstakingly created with commercial movies will be seen in a completely new look in this film. Indraneil Sengupta, Sohana Saba (Bangladesh), Rudranil Ghosh, Sudipta Chakraborty, Sohini Sarkar, Konenica Banerjee will be seen in important roles in this upcoming Bengali film.
Produced by Surajit Hari and Fab Four Films, the shooting of the film is currently in progress in various parts of the city.
