Contemporary dance icon Terence Lewis and India’s dancing diva-Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit-Nene has joined hands to support Mumbai’s first ever Contemporary Dance Festival, Jugnee. The festival was launched on the eve of World International Dance Day which is today.

A five day non-profit and completely dance neutral festival is what Jugnee is all about. The dance festival will help in giving the young emerging and professional dancers a voice and platform to showcase their talent under one roof. Along with this the most renowned International Faculty here will also be available for the dancers.

Talking about the festival, Terence mentioned that the dance community in India works in isolation. They are not wholly aware of the opportunities that they have for themselves. On the collaboration with Madhuri Dixit, he mentioned that she is the name synonymous with dance and beauty. Moreover she had been creating awareness among people about dance through her digital app tutorials. Hence she is just the best and right person for the purpose.

The five-day festival will be held in Mumbai, India at different venues namely

29th April: NCPA, 30th April: Prithvi Theatre, 1st May: St Andrews, 2nd May: Social (Meet & Greet) and 3rd May: Equal street walk (Dancing on the streets).

The festival will also include workshops hosted by Indian and international teachers. Some of the teachers include Joe Alegado (USA) & Peter Jasko (Slovakia), Terence Lewis (Mumbai), Nakula Somana (Bangalore), Mayuri (from Nrityarutya-Bangalore). There will also be movie screenings. Along with these panel discussions, performances and socials will also be part of Jugnee.
