Produced by Pawan Kanodia, director Suman Mukhopadhyay’s film Asamapto’s press conference took place recently. The press conference took place in the august presence of Swastika Mukherjee, Ritwick Chakraborty, Paoli Dam, Paulomi Das and others.
Based on acclaimed author Sirshendu Mukherjee’s novel “Aschorjo Bhromon” Asamapto is a narration of this multilayered, complex matrix of relations caught in the web of psychological intricacies that affects, effects and changes lives forever.
“This is my sixth movie and with each film I have tried to explore areas of human relationship which have not been explored before. Even while I was shooting Sesher Kobita, a thought came to my mind. How do I take forward this understanding of romantic relationship to the modern era? And then I read Sirshendu Mukherjee’s Aschorjo Bhromon and that was it,” said director Suman Mukhopadhyay at the press conference.
Indrajit (Ritwick) lands up in the mountains in search of his childhood. He is a guest at Moloy’s (Bratya) home, a friend from his college. Moloy and Tuki’s (Swastika) love marriage that has now turned bitter, had seen better days. Indrajit’s former flame Mitun (Paoli) has also come for a vacation with her husband Subrata (Anindya) and sister-in-law Sanatani (Poulami). They meet by chance and old wounds bleed.
Moloy-Tuki’s failed marriage is set against the near perfect conjugal life of Subrata-Mitun. A new realization slowly dawns on Indrajit who recognizes new facets of relations, marriage and women. The only freshness in these mountains is Sanatani, a modern girl, with a bag of uncomfortable questions. It is in the face of this bursting-to-the-seam complexities that Indrajit decides to take a path not trodden before.
Speaking about the title, the director said that our lives move in circles. We plan something and then a new voyage starts in life. Hence, the title of the film has been given Asamapto meaning incomplete.
Paoli Dam who plays Mitun in the film will be working with Suman Mukhopadhyay for the first time. The actress also revealed that her character is a brand conscious person, which she is not in her real life.
Swastika plays Tuki in the film, who is a housewife. A tussle exists with her husband; both physical and mental. However, the love is still present in their relationship. The actress looked visibly excited on her pairing with Bratya Basu as the husband and wife.
With a stellar cast and an engaging story on human relationships, Asamapto will be one film to look forward to for sure!!
