A brand new summer collection and website by well-known fashion designer Suchismita Dasgupta was launched recently.
The saris and other garments by Suchismita’s Nextiles are not only a testimony to the rich textile heritage of the country. Suchismita’s designs are easy to wear clothes with a dash of sophistication meant for all seasons and reasons.
Designer Suchismita Dasgupta has recently re-launched her website Nextiles with a short film Spinning a Yarn – A Nextiles Story directed by Utsav Mukherjee. She is well aware of the need for communication in this fast paced world, and the website is a testimony to her belief, connecting her to a global audience.
The four-and-a-half-minute feature that runs on a musical score by Raja Narayan Deb has an ensemble cast featuring Tollywood celebrities like Swastika Mukherjee, Vikram Chatterjee, Gaurav Chakrabarty, Ridhima Ghosh, model Sonika Chauhan along with television actor Mallika Mazumdar and actor Kheya Chattopadhyay. The cinematography for the film has been done by Filmfare East award winning cinematographer Gairik Sarkar.
Director Utsav Mukherjee added that the film was not just about the clothes but rather the characters and human emotions. The fabrics used in it reflected those moods and emotions and make them more human rather than just being garments.
Suchismita’s has used the techniques of Batik, Shibori, tie and dye, mud resist block prints, mix of various hand embroidery on hand woven, natural fabric like silk, cotton and linen. She also used recycled/scrap yarn to weave saris, scarves and fabrics and it has become one of the most popular products.
