Global / International Tiger day is a global initiative, to raise awareness for tiger conservation and is held annually on 29th July. It was created in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit. The goal of the day is to promote a global initiative for protecting the natural habitats of tigers and to raise public awareness and support for tiger conservation issues in order to save them from the brink of extinction.
Like every year this year too Akhon Aranyak took the initiative to organize a Photography Exhibition cum Competition at ICCR from 28th – 30th July, 2017. The aim of this exhibition was to showcase photographs of wild tiger in natural environment by many enthusiastic wildlife photographers. Works of renowned photographers were also on display. Some of the photographers whose work was on display include Nilanjan Chatterjee, Krishanu Manna, Dhritiman Mukherjee, Sunil Mukhopadhyay, Ashish Dalela, Sarbajit Ghosh, Mithun Purkait and others. Sixty five pictures were showcased at the exhibition.
Akhon Aranyak was inaugurated by Wildlife Photographer Dhritiman Mukherjee, Biswajit Roychoudhury (Famous Wildlife conservationist and Tiger Expert), Sakti Ranjan Banerjee (Ex Regional Director – WWF), Tublu Chatterjee (Tiger Expert) and many others.
Among the all participants, Abhirup Ghosh Dastidar won the 1st prize, Nirmalya Chakrabarty and Amit Dhongde won 2nd and 3rd Prize respectively. Two books namely Aranya Hey 2 and Sundarban Forever was launched at the event too.
