Director Sukankan Roy’s ‘Sound of Joy’ wins Best Animation Film at the 62nd National Film Awards of India


Bengali Filmmakers have tasted immense success at the 62nd National Film Awards of India winning 14 Awards across various categories. Srijit Mukherji made Bengal proud by winning a National Award for Chotushkone. This win was followed by the awarding of the Best Animation Film to Sound of Joy at the recently held National Awards ceremony.


‘Sound of Joy’ won the Best Animation Film at the 62nd National Film Awards with the Jury speaking extremely high of the film. The flowing and engaging animation style in narrating the stories from Vivekananda’s childhood and its emphasis on developing the power of concentration were some of the high points of liking this story by the jury panel.


Director Sukankan Roy who spearheaded this project said that this project was dedicated to bring back the lost childhood of the Indian children.This would also imbibe self-belief in them. The director was also equally ecstatic on seeing that so many fellow Bengalis have been awarded National awards in different categories.


At the function, each of the Awardees was conferred with the Rajat Kamal or the Silver Lotus Award. The team at Aura Cinematics, the Producers; were represented by Dipankar Sarkar, Sukankan Roy (Director) and Rishi Sahany (Animator).

Indian Film Festival of Melbourne Inaugurated by Living Legend Amitabh Bachchan


The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), was inaugurated by the Bollywood Megastar and living Legend Amitabh Bachchan. IFFM celebrates the festival of Indian Cinema. The biggest stars and the most eminent filmmakers are present at this festival introducing their work and bringing in the magic of Bollywood to Melbourne. It is an eleven day long brimful festival.

Amitabh Bachchan delightfully states, “I am delighted that Melbourne is hosting this Festival. I am very honoured.” The Victorian Government has conferred to award Mr.Bachchan with the International Screen Icon Award at the Gala Event of the festival.“Indeed I am honoured that they have decided to give me this award. I just feel that I am least accomplished to receive such a recognition but this is your kindness, affection and grace.” Amitabh Bachchan said at a press conference. Even before his arrival at the festival, excitement had built around every corner of Melbourne city. He was received with warm welcome from a huge crowd uplifting him at the Melbourne Airport. He was seen socialising with IFFM’s media partners and sponsors at Event.


The inaugural ceremony began with Mr. Bachchan lighting the ceremonial lamp and addressing the audience. Amitabh Bachchan was announced as the “One – Man patriarch of the Indian Cinema.” He also shares his thoughts on visiting Australia and talks about his role in the Indian Cinema during press interviews at the festival.

Shahid (2013): Preview, Story,Trailer, Poster : A movie on the controversial life of the criminal lawyer Shahid Azmi

Shahid is a 2013 biographical Bollywood film. The film is directed by Hansal Mehta and produced by another Bollywood Movie Director Anurag Kashyap along with Ronnie Screwvala, Sunil Bohra & Siddharth Roy Kapur (nowdays better known as the husband of Bollywood actress Vidya Balan).

The film had its world premiere at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival‘s ‘City to City’ program in September 2012.The film was selected for distribution by UTV Motion Pictures and is set to release on October 18th, 2013. The film also features the versatile Timangshu Dhulia, who himself is a Director par excellence. Timangshu has earlier played the central negative character in Anurag Kashyap’s “Gangs of Wasseypur” series and has directed a milestone film like Pan Singh Tomar (which was adjudged as the “Best Hindi Film” in the National Award 2012 & Irrfan Khan won the “Best Actor” (Male) award for the same film. Here Timangshu has played the character of Maqbool Menon, who is the owner of the Law Firm, where Shahid first started his career as a criminal lawyer. Apart from Timangshu, the film also stars Prabhleen Sandhu as the female lead. Prabhleen has played the character of Mariam, who is Shahid’s wife. K.K Menon has also made a special appearance as War Saab, who is Shahid’s ideological mentor in jail. Ace theater artist Baljinder Kaur has played the role of Shahid’s mother.

Shahid is based on the life of Muslim lawyer & human rights activist, Shahid Azmi (played by Rajkumar Yadav), who was assassinated in 2010 in Mumbai.

Hansal Mehta decided to make the film after he heard people were accusing Shahid of terrorist activities: “Shahid Azmi was not alive to tell his side of the story when aspersions were being cast on him. So Director Hansal Mehta decided to stand up for him. The film aims to showcase Shahid as the symbol of ‘Hope’ and religious tolerance.
