The chill in the early morning weather did not deter the spirit of nearly five thousand citizens of the city who participated in the Airtel Run for education. Organized by Round Table India (RTI), the event was flagged off from City Centre Salt Lake in the presence of tennis legend Akhtar Ali, Grandmaster Dibyendu Barua, Mr Ravindra Singh Negi, (CEO – Kolkata, West Bengal & Odisha telecom circles, Bharti Airtel Limited), Usha Uthup, Debabrata Das, Nusrat Jahan, Mr Deepak Menda, National President, RTI, Mr Manish Shah, Area Chairman, RTI, Mr Manish Poddar, Chairman CSRT 17, Mr Chetan Prakash Chairman KVRT 227, Mr Vivek Burman, Event Convenor, RTI, Mr Kunal Khilani, Event Convenor, RTI and Mr Sahil Saharia, Convenor for Corporate Alliance, RTI.
Round Table India had been organizing this event for the past few years and many underprivileged children have benefitted from the funds collected with the help of this event. RTI had undertaken this initiative in many cities in India.
Airtel Run-For-Education had two categories of 5 kilometers and10 kilometers which saw the active participation of students, corporates, army, organizations and families. The first prize winner received a cheque of Rs 30,000, a medal and Rs 5 000 Gift Card of Puma. The second prize winner received a cheque of Rs 22,000, a medal and Rs 5 000 Gift Card of Puma while the third prize winner received a cheque of Rs 15,000, a medal and Rs 5 000 Gift Card of Puma.
The participants had to report an hour earlier to the beginning of the race. Necessary food and water arrangements were made and medical support was also kept handy for the participants.
The Airtel Run for Education therefore was a great initiative and the active participation from the people of the city made the event a huge success.
