Eminent Ghazal singer Janiva Roy’s music album on Modern Bengali songs titled Amar Pinjar was recently released at the Press Club in the august presence of singer Bonoshree Sengupta.
Janiva Roy started singing at the age of eight. She began her training under the guidance of her parents Shika and Bapi Roy. Later she began training under Shipra Basu, Md Nasir Khan and Ustad Mashkoor Khan. She learnt Ghazal from Om Prakash Bindre and has performed in many stage shows with him. Her first playback singing was in a film called Malabodol.
She has also acted in quite a number of Bengali films. She was cast opposite Prasenjit Chatterjee in the film Malabodol directed by Raaj Mukherjee. Her other films include Tiyag and a shantali film called Mara Tukare Moyna Meru.
“I have composed the music of this album as I wanted to bring back the old freshness of the songs in the album. The album is a melodious one and I hope that the audience will appreciate the effort. Pankaj Ray has penned the lyrics of the songs in this album. There are six songs in Amar Pinjar” said Janiva Roy. The singer had done a lot of work before. She had worked in films like Khushbu, Tiyag, Malabadal and so on.
Speaking at the occasion Bonoshree sengupta praised the singer for her efforts at bringing out a music album with such melodious songs. She also wished her all the luck for her future endeavors.
Janiva Roy while speaking about her future plans revealed that she had no plans any more of working in films. The talented singer will rather focus more on her singing abilities.
