New Bengali Puja Album Released; Amit Kumar Presents a Timeless Collection of Modern Bengali Songs

Starmark in association with Channel B Entertainment hosted the audio launch of Du Chokhe Srabon – Amit Kumar’s new Puja album at its South City Mall outlet. The music of Du Chokhe Srabon has been composed by Devjit Roy. The audio launch of Du Chokhe Srabon was anchored by Debashis Basu in the esteemed presence of Amit Kumar and other celebrities like filmmaker Goutam Ghosh and tabla maestro Tanmoy Bose.

Amit Kumar’s journey started in 1973 with Jiniser Dam Berechhe/Mone Mone Kato Din. Kishore Kumar made young Amit render his debut puja song. Amit went on to sing puja songs with composers like Kishore Kumar, R.D.Burman, Basu-Manohari, Kanu Roy, Shankar Das and so on.

Du Chokhe Shrabon is this year’s brand new puja songs album by Amit Kumar featuring five modern Bengali songs composed by Devjit Roy. It has been a long association with composer Devjit Roy. They have worked on more than seven albums. Amit Kumar said, “Devjit is the only composer who worked on more than seven albums including Sagarika which got the Gold Disc in 1999. It sold around 2 lakh copies. Much before Sagarika, Devjit made me sing in some Bengali movies in the early 90s. Devjit has used my voice texture correctly in this album too. The title song has a semi classical touch. The songs are of varied tastes.”

The album has been produced by one of his ardent fans Bikashh Chakladaar while the venture has been supported by the Amit Kumar Fan Club. The lyrics have been penned by Sreeraj Mitra, Rajiv Tarun Singha and Devjit Roy himself.

Songs like Du Chokhe Shrabon, Hoyto Tomay Pabo Bole, Maa,Chole Aay are worth a  mention.

Amit Kumar added, “I believe that such a fantastic venture will be appreciated by melody lovers. Channel B Music has released the album in Kolkata. Hope my fans will like this musical offering. Buy the original CDs, stop piracy and keep supporting good music.”

With Durga Puja just around the corner, buying this audio CD will be worth it!!

Sayani Ghosh and Biswanath Basu act as hosts of this show while the show is being judged by Usha Uthup, Bappi Lahiri and Amit Kumar.

“I immensely liked the concept of blind audition. We actually did not see the finalists until we removed the band from our eyes. This is an impartial way of selecting candidates for sure. What makes it even more special is the fact that contestants are getting a second chance at pursuing their dreams” said Usha Uthup.

Ace singer Amit Kumar who is also on the judges’ panel praised the concept of this show highly. When asked about the status of modern songs, the singer said “I hardly listen to any of the songs. The lyrics are so meaningless. I listen to the old songs though I have already heard all of them. Still they are better. Even now old songs are remixed and sung at functions and shows. Old is gold”.
