Gaudiya Nritya Bharati organized a 2-day classical dance event in Kolkata

Gaudiya Nritya Bharati, in association with the Gaud Banga Dance Concert Academy, organized the Nistarini Kali Temple Dance Concert – a 2-day classical dance event at ICCR. The guests of honor on the first day were Prof. Rabiranjan Chattopadhyay, MIC, Government of West Bengal, and Prof. Manabendu Bandyopadhyay, General Secretary, The Asiatic Society, Kolkata.

The first day’s program began with the screening of the film ‘Dance of the God’, one of the two documentary films on Prof. Mahua Mukherjee and her work, produced by the Government of India, Films Division. It was followed by an Odishi recital of the well-known Odishi artiste Sharmila Biswas; a Gaudiya Nritya presentation of Gaudiya Nritya Bharati, with the dances directed by Prof. Mahua Mukherjee and the music by Amitava Mukherjee; a Kathakali recital of the well-known Kathakali artiste Kalamandalam Goutam; and, finally, the first day’s closing dance – another presentation of Gaudiya Nritya Bharati.

On the second day, ‘Trance in Motion’ – the other documentary film on Prof. Mahua Mukherjee – was screened, followed by a Bharatanatyam recital of Abhoy Pal and a Kathak recital of Paramita Maitra. Garfa Mitrayan presented Radhabhavdyutisubalitam next, based on the concept of Vipralambha Shringar of Goddess Radha in the Gaudiya Nritya style, conceived, choreographed and directed by Banani Chakraborty, the dances co-directed by Satabdi Acharyya, and the music directed by Subhadip Chakraborty and Ayan Mukherjee. Thereafter, Buddhi Edirisinghe of Sri Lanka presented a Kandyan dance recital. The second day’s programme concluded with Prof. Mahua Mukherjee’s presentation ‘A Journey to Knowledge and Peace’, conceived and directed by her and based on ‘Buddha Charit’ of Ashwa Ghosh, with the the music directed by Ayan Mukherjee and Subhadip Chakraborty, and the lights by Uttiya Jana.

The two day classical dance festival was a great experience for the dance lovers of the city.
