The 22nd Kolkata International Film Festival was inaugurated in the presence of Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Kajol, Sanjay Dutt, Parineeti Chopra and others.
The catalogue for the festival was unveiled by Sanjay Dutt, Kajol and Yadav Mondal. The thali girl for the inauguration ceremony was Tollywood actress Mimi Chakraborty.
Amitabh Bachchan’s speech at the event dealt with the evolution of the women power in films and the changes that have happened. He spoke on this issue and gave elaborate examples on this topic to highlight his stand. From Achyut Kanya to the recently released film Pink, the actor touched all the aspects, keeping the audiences hooked. He not only mentioned Hindi films, but equally stressed on Bengali films too. Satyajit Ray’s Postmaster, Ghore Baire, Rituparno Ghosh’s Chokher Bali, Shyam Benegal’s Mandi, Ankur were some of the films that he named to state the changes.
Dev felicitated Amitabh Bachchan at the event. Shahrukh Khan (Rituparna Sengupta), Jaya Bachchan (Koel), Sanjay Dutt (Nusrat), Kajol (Sayantika), Parineeti (Yash Dasgupta) was also felicitated.
The anchors of this event were Jisshu Sengupta and Churni Ganguly. The inaugural film was Benche Thakar Gaan directed by Abhijit Guha and Sudeshna Roy.
The inauguration was full of glitz and glamour and promised that the next seven days will be a treat for the cine lovers of the city.
