The Salil Chowdhury Memorial: Exhibition and Talk Show was recently inaugurated at Gorky Sadan to commemorate the 21st death anniversary of the legendary musician. The inauguration took place in the presence of Sabita Chowdhury, Antara Chowdhury, Joy Sarkar, Haimanti Shukla, Pandit Tanmoy Bose, Banasreee Sengupta, Srijato and others.


Speaking at the occasion, Rupak Saha, Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers said “After Rabindranath Tagore, the musician whose name can be taken is Salil Chowdhury. His songs are so popular even today. Like Tagore’s songs, his creations have also become timeless and ageless. I am proud to be a part of such an event”.

The first day saw the esteemed guests being engaged in an animated talk about the late music legend. The second day had performances by Kalyan Sen Borat and his group on Salil Chowdhury. The final day had special musical presentation by those musicians who used to accompany Salil Chowdhury.


“It is a great thing actually that this event is being held at Gorky Sadan. Salil Chowdhury was present when the Eisenstein Cine Club was inaugurated here. It is indeed a privilege to host such an exhibition here on a larger than life individual” said Goutam Ghosh.

The exhibition showcased rare paintings by the musician, his awards, his letters, picture gallery, audio-visual presentation and his memorabilia. The three day exhibition and talk show was presented by Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers.

Solo Program of Singer Lopamudra Mitra to Celebrate Completion of 25 Years in the Music Industry


Singer Lopamudra Mitra completed 25 years of her musical journey this year. To celebrate this feat, a grand solo program at Rabindra Sadan was organized. This year also marks the twenty years completion of Benimadhob too.

Present on the occasion were Srikanto Acharya, Rupam Islam, Anupam Roy, Bratati Bandopadhyay, Kalikaprasad, Pt. Debojyoti Bose, Antara Chowdhury, Sidhu among others.


Speaking at the occasion, the singer said “It is indeed a great feeling that I have completed so many years singing. I am blessed because people have continued to love me even after so many years. I want to continue singing for the rest of my life and entertain the audience who have given so much love!!”

She performed about twenty of her own hit numbers including Abar Ashibo Fire, Amar Mawte, Jao Pakhi and finally ending the epic evening with Benimadhob.

We wish Lopamudra Mitra all the best and hope she continues singing like this in the coming years too!!

Audio Music Album of Upcoming Bengali Film Sankhachil Released; Film Based on Original Story by Gautam Ghose and Sayantani Pututandu

Video: Audio Music Album of Sankhachil Launched

Director Goutam Ghose, Kushum Shikder, child actor Shajbati, Rupankar Bagchi, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty graced the music launch occasion of the upcoming Bengali film Sankhachil.


Sankhachil is a human saga of a truncated land. It also showcases how the lives of the people who live there are also affected. The film narrates the life of a family living along the Indo-Bangladesh border. Based on an original story by Gautam Ghose and Sayantani Pututandu, the film has been co-produced by nIdeas Creations and productions Pvt Ltd, Ashirbad Chalochittra and Impress Telefilm Ltd.


The music of the film comprises of songs written by Rabindranath Tagore, Jibanananda Das, Mukunda Das, Kazi Nazrul Islam and Rajanikanta Sen. There are seven songs in the music album. Two poems written by Belail Choudhury and Sunil Gangopadhyay are also a part of this album. Sunil Gangopadhyay’s poem “Alik Manusher Santan” has been recited by Prosenjit Chatterjee while the other poem has been recited by the director.


Rupankar Bagchi, Antara Chowdhury, Firdaus Ara, Monomoy Bhattacharya and others have lent their voices to the songs in the album. Rupankar, Armaann Fakir, Antara Chowdhury and Monomoy Bhattacharya performed the songs live for the audience at the event.


The film Sankhachil is slated for release on Bengali New Year’s day in both India and Bangladesh simultaneously.

The Salil Chowdhury Memorial Concert and Honors Celebrating the Contribution of Some of the Greatest Indian Musicians


Salil Chowdhury a multifaceted genius was remembered on his 90 th birthday through a mega musical extravaganza titled The Salil Chowdhury Memorial Concert & Honours. The event was held at Kala Mandir. Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers presented the grand initiative along with the Salil Chowdhury Foundation of Music.


The Salil Chowdhury Memorial Honours has been initiated to award deserving artists. This will be an annual event, revealed the organizers of this initiative. This year the honor was presented to Dr. K. J. Yesudas (Life Time Honour), Suresh Wadkar (Special Honour for contribution to Music), Amit Kumar (Special Entertainment Honour).


Antara Chowdhury, singer and daughter of the late composer said, “It is my legendary father’s 90 th birth anniversary. There is not a single day that I don’t sing his melodies. We started working through this trust in 2002 and this would be our fourth musical venture.”


It was followed by a grand musical extravaganza featuring memorable performances by Sabita Chowdhury, Dr K.J.Yesudas, Suresh Wadkar, Amit Kumar, Mahalaxmi Iyer,Shantanu Moitra, Antara Chowdhury, Sanchari Chowdhury,Rupankar, Manomay, Anwesha,Sanjoy Chowdhury and group of chorus artiste. It was orchestrated by the renowned musician-composer Rocket Mondal and Sanjoy Chowdhury. The concert was anchored by Satinath Mukhopadhyay.

Modern Bengali Songs Audio Music Album ‘Notes of Nostalgia’ Launch

“Notes of Nostalgia” a theme based album, consisting of a collection of nine modern Bengali songs by Santanu Kar and composed by Mithun Mallik was released recently. The album launch was done in the august presence of well known singers like Shibaji Chatterjee, Antara Chowdhury, Ranjan Prasad at Press club recently.


Speaking at the occasion, Shibaji Chatterjee said “This is a great initiative. Gone are those days when people used to look forward for modern Bengali songs. Now only people opt for remixing the old Bengali songs. But with this initiative of Santanu, the Bengali audiences will be able to listen to good Bengali songs”.


The concept, composition, arrangement and narration of the album have been done by Mithun. The lyrics of the songs have been penned down by Rumi Pandit and Utpal Das.


Priced at Rs 125, the album is brought out by INRECO and is readily available at all the leading music stores in the city.
