Second Edition of Apeejay Bangla Sahitya Utsob; Two Day Literary Affair at Oxford Bookstore

The second edition of Apeejay Bangla Sahitya Utsob was announced with a literary tour of Kolkata. Writer Ranjan Bandopadhyay, Tridib Kumar Chattopadhyay, Anjum Katyal, Swagat Sengupta was part of this literary tour of the city.


The literary tour started at the residence of Raja Rammohan Roy now Kolkata Police Museum. It was then continued to the residence of Upendrakishore Roy Choudhury, Rammohan Library, residence of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar and ended with Sahitya Parishad.

The two day event will have discussion on the following themes namely Rohosho-Romancho-Goenda liklay jonopriyo?, Social media ki sahittor khoti korche, Mukher Bhasa ki sahitya r bhasa howa ucith, Lekhai alongkooner ki proyojon and others.

“With this festival, we intend to make the young generation aware of the rich literary culture of Bengal. We say that the youth do not read Bengali books, but it is also our duty to make them aware of it. This festival is such an initiative” said Tridib Kumar Chattopadhyay.


The event will be inaugurated by eminent writer Shankha Ghosh. Sanjib Chattopadhyay, Nabaneeta Dev Sen and Selina Hossain will also be present at the occasion. Some of the eminent personalities who will be present at the two day event include Komolini Chakraborty, Anup Ray, Abir Chatterjee, Nachiketa, Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Sandip Ray, Srijato, Bani Basu, Krishnendu Mukherjee, Procheto Gupta and others.

The event will take place on 21st and 22nd October at Oxford Bookstore, Park Street, Kolkata.

India’s first Bengali literary festival Apeejay Bangla Sahitya Utsob a Great Success in its First Edition

In its first edition, India’s first Bengali literary festival titled Apeejay Bangla Sahitya Utsob was inaugurated at Oxford Bookstore, Park Street. The inauguration saw the presence of eminent authors like Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay, Samaresh Mazumdar, Sankha Ghosh and many others.


The opening session at the discussion was on whether the language of Bengali literature was undergoing changes across the border. Some of the other authors and poets who took part in animated discussions over the course of the day included Bani Basu, Pracheta Gupta, Dipanwita Roy, Subodh Sarkar and many others.


Personalities from the film and music fraternity also participated in the daylong event. Goutam Ghosh, Suman Mukhopadhyay, Mainak Bhoumik spoke on the topic whether adaptation is better- books to movies or vice versa.

The literary festival broke new grounds as it was beamed live worldwide on Youtube with live blogging in both Bengali and English from the venue.

The daylong Bengali literary festival was a huge success in its very first year and we hope that this will have a second edition in the coming year too.

Apeejay Bangla Sahitya Utsob announced

When the whole city of Kolkata is gearing up to welcom the Mother Goddess, Oxford Bookstore in association with Patra Bharati has come up with a unique Bengali Literary festival for the book loving city. The literary festival has been titled Apeejay Bangla Sahitya Utsob. In the august presence of Sirshendu Mukherjee, Swagat Sengupta, Tridib Kumar Chattopdhyay and Ms. Renu Kkkar, the Apeejay Bangla Sahitya Utsob was announced at Oxford Bookstore.


The Apeejay Bangla Sahitya Utsob is India’s first Bengali literary festival. Created in association with Patra Bharati, the festival will have eminent authors, film directors, poets and musicians participating in the daylong event. These personalities will be covering the various facets of Bengali literature.


Speaking at the occasion, Shirshendu Mukherjee said “Who says people do not read Bengali books or for that matter books in today’s time? That is a misconception. When you see the growth in the number of publishers, the number of copies sold, you can very well understand that book sales are good. Books are here to stay. I am not against e-books as they help in reducing the cutting of trees. So you can be assured that youngsters are reading books too!!”

Some of the eminent dignitaries who will be participating in this daylong event include Shirshendu Mukherjee, Nabaneeta Dev Sen, Samaresh Majumdar, Sankha Ghosh, Bani Basu, Gouam Ghose, Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, Nachiketa, Surojit Chatterjee, Kalika Prasad, Sanjib Chatterjee and many others.


For the first time ever, the Wikipedia Bangla team will create original content coming out from this daylong event. Live blogging in English by the Kolkata Bloggers and live feed on Youtube will also enable many audiences to keep a tab on the events happening at this Bengali literary festival.

The event will take place on the 10th of October at Oxford Bookstore from 11am to 9.30 pm.
