Child artists who become at one time a household name are often not remembered by people later on. This is the thought behind the New Bangla Movie Apur Pachali. Subir Banerjee who played the role of Apu in Satyajit Ray’s film “Pather Pachali” is hardly remembered by anyone today and has simple vanished into the crowd. This is what prompted director Kaushik Ganguly to make the film based on real life incidents of Subir Banerjee. The exclusive first look and trailer launch of the film took place at Nandan in the 19th Kolkata Film Festival’s Film mart director in the presence of Kaushik Ganguly, Tollywood actress Parno Mitra, Hero Gaurab Chakraborty, Ardhendu Banerjee, Shirsa Ray and Indraadip Dasgupta.
“The film is not a biography. I just took parts from the life of Subir Banerjee and portrayed that in my film. The fact that many of us still know him is what I wanted to portray with the help of this film” said Kaushik Ganguly.
Parno looking petty in a green sari with a printed pink blouse regretted missing the show of the film Sunglass. “I play the role of a village girl called Asima in this film. So long I have played roles of girls born and brought up in cities. But this role is challenging and I did not think I will be able to pull it off. The director however believed in me and I hope I have been able to live up to the expectations of the director” said the actress when talking about the Bangla Movie Apur Panchali. Parno who is doing her second film with Parambrata (The first being Ekla Akash) said “He is very supportive and co-operative as a co-star. He helped me in many of the scenes”.
Gaurab Chakraborty plays the role of Arka, a SRFTI student in this film. Gaurab is given the task of delivering the letter to Subir Banerjee and then what happens is an adventure. The actor is also busy shooting for Agoon and is also waiting for the release of the film Highway. Ardhendu Banerjee plays the role of the mature Subir Banerjee in the film (the younger version is played by Parambrata). “The biggest challenge in this role is that the person I am portraying is still alive and I have not met him. Hence what I have done is to put myself in the position and act accordingly. Hope my acting will be appreciated by the audience” said the actor.
Music in the film is also very important. There are no songs in the film. There is only a theme song and background music to carry forward the narrative.
Apur Pachali will be screened at the Indian Panorama in Goa. The movie is expected to release either in January or on April 14.
