The film Chotoder Chobi- A Short Story by Kaushik Ganguly which focuses on the genetic disorder leading to dwarfism has been making heads turn with the novelty of its concept. The hero of the film Dulal Sarkar bagged the prestigious Best Actor Award at IFFI Goa. To celebrate his achievement a press conference was held recently at Princeton Club. Kaushik Ganguly, Srikant Mohta, Indraadip Dasgupta, Dulal Sarkar and Churni Ganguly were present at the press conference.
Speaking at the occasion director Kaushik Ganguly said “People question me what made me think of these people to make a film. But what I want to ask the other directors is why did they not think of these people before? They are either seen as clowns in circuses or been ridiculed by the people. We hardly give importance to what they actually feel”.
Dulal Sarkar’s mother who was in tears when asked about her reactions on her son’s achievements said “I did not know that my son has become so big. As a mother I am so very proud of him. I will also like to thank the director who had even thought of the plight of people like my son affected with this genetic disorder”.
The film is a love story about Khoka and Soma, who are both suffering from this genetic disorder of dwarfism. Shibu, Soma’s father is a trapeze artist at a circus. He falls prey to an accident and does not receive the due compensation from the company. Khoka lends a helping hand to the family. Though this brings him closer to Soma, they are unable to deal with the relationship just like any other couple. What happens next is what the film highlights.
Dulal Sarkar is the first actor representing the Bengali film fraternity to have bagged the Best Actor Award for a Bengali film in an International competition. “When I first heard I received an award, I was happy. But I was not aware of the importance of the award. It was Kaushik da who actually made me understand the importance of the award that I have been presented with” said the actor. The actor also highlighted on the fact that he was being treated at par with all the other artists on the sets, which was a great feeling for him.
With this film director Kaushik Ganguly also scored a hat-trick at IFFI Goa as two of his previous films Arekti Premer Golpo and Apur Pachali also had also been awarded at this International Film meet .
Team Sholoana Bangaliana congratulates the brilliant actor on his achievement. We are all very proud of you!!!
