Video: Audio music album Rabindra Sahitya o Sangeet e Prathabhanga Prem Launch
Audio music album Rabindra Sahitya o Sangeet e Prathabhanga Prem was recently released at an event held at Press Club. Present at the event was actress Ushasie, singer Pritha Chattopadhyay, director Satarupa Sanyal, Sabyasachi Deb and Krishna Bandopadhyay.
“With this album, I have tried to showcase Tagore’s love from a woman’s point of view. This is a case of subversive love. Women are always considered the object of desire by a man and they show their love for the woman. But in this case, the tables have been turned. The selected poems and songs of Tagore have been torn apart from their traditional association and revisited through the perspective of an active feminine sexuality” said singer Pritha Chattopadhyay.
The script of the album and the song selections have been done by Professor Epsita Halder of the Department of Comparative Literature, Jadavpur University, Pritha Chattopadhyay and Rahul Deb Roy. The album is a documentation of the passions, desires, anxiety, desperation, failure and fulfillments of women as active subjects of love.
Speaking at the event, actress Ushasie said “I will urge the people to listen to the album and they will surely love it. We have tried to decipher Tagore’s writings in a different way. It will be wrong to claim that we have done something path breaking. That is simply not possible because huge research on Tagore has already been done. We have just taken the path that is seldom taken up by others. Therein lies the novelty of this album”.
Brought out by Bihaan Music, the album is priced at Rs 125.
Artage Music and Purple Music launched the recitation album of ace elocutionist Sutapa Mukhopadhyay. The album launch ceremony took place in the presence of Tollywood actor Biswanath Basu and Mr. Subrata Dutta, Vice-President, AIFF.
Sutapa Mukhopadhyay is a History lecturer by profession. She never received any formal training for recitation. However she had the inborn talent of reciting well. It is this inborn talent which led her to perform at live shows. She also trains underprivileged children the art of recitation too.
Speaking at the occasion Sutapa Mukhopadhyay said “I have been reciting from a very small age. But I have never received any formal training. I always wanted to bring out a CD and showcase my skills. Hence I felt the need to bring out this CD on recitation. I will also like to take the opportunity to thank Mr. Joydip Mukherjee without whose help this music album would not have seen the light of day”.
The recitation album Bristi Pore Tapur Tupur consists of sixteen poems recited by Sutapa Mukhopadhyay. Some of the poems included in this album include Jonmantor, Abhisr, Pran, Dikha, Bisti pore tapur tupur, Kolika, Pathika, Durlobh Jonmo, Mukti and others.
Biswanath Basu who was also present at the music launch said “I came to Kolkata eighteen years back with the intention to act. I also did not have formal training in acting. Hence I could whole heartedly understand what Sutapa Mukhopadhyay was feeling with her debut CD launch. I also liked the fact that she took time out of her busy schedule and taught under privileged children. We hardly have the time now to think of others and she is doing that which is mind blowing”.
