The album launch of Sharoni Sen’s Gaan Diye Je Tomay Khunji: In Search of You – A Collection of Tagore songs close to the heart was launched recently. The album was presented by Batch 99 and Nirjharer Swapna. Present at the music launch event were Aparna Sen and Pramita Mallick.
This is Sharoni’s first solo music album and the songs in it are varied in content. Some bear a strain of nostalgia and the pain of separation while others are purely spiritual and speak of the sublime.
Speaking at the launch, Sharoni mentioned that her grandmother Sunanda Dasgupta was her mentor for music when she was a little girl. The album is a tribute to her grandmother and showcases the style of singing that she would have loved to hear.
Aparna Sen who also graced the event said that she was in search of a music trainer for Shabana Azmi for her upcoming film Sonata. A relative referred Sharoni’s name as a possible teacher. “Shabana still is in awe of her as she is one of the most intelligent teachers she has ever met. She was jittery till the very end and it was Sharoni who gave her the confidence to record her voice. Shabana sang two very difficult Rabindra Sangeet- Aji Jhore Raate and Sukhe Aandhare Ekela Ghore for the film.

Rupankar’s new album Tor Jonno was released in the august presence of Madhabi Mukherjee, Kalyan Sen Borat, Kohinoor Sen Borat, Antara Choudhury and others.
The seven songs in the album are modern songs which have been sung by Rupankar. The lyrics have been composed by Koushik Sengupta while the music has been composed by Kalyan Sen Borat.
Speaking at the occasion, Kalyan Sen Borat said “I have been extremely satisfied after composing the music of this album. The Bengali modern songs in this album will appeal to the audience. Listen to them at night and you will feel the essence very nicely”.
Madhabi Mukherjee urged the audience to buy authentic CDs in a bid to save the music industry and also help the artists. Rupankar added that one can also download from the legal sites and save the industry.
The album has been priced at Rs 125 and is available at all music shops in the city.
The music album launch of Mainak Bhaumik’s next film Bibaho Diaries took place recently. The event was graced by the director, Sohini Sarkar, Lagnajita, Anupam Roy, Biswanath Basu, Savvy and others.
Royona (Sohini Sarkar) and Protyoy (Ritwick Chakraborty) is a modern day young couple who get married after falling in love. However they face hurdles in their personal life due to the age old traditions of marriage. The film showcases how the couple deals with these issues and also how they maintain the romance in their life.
“Life is different when one is in love and wants to get married. But the equation changes when one gets married. With this film I have tried to explore that in a humorous way” said the director.
The music launch of the upcoming Bengali film Romantic Noy took place in the presence of Sayani Datta, Subhayu, Rupankar, Partha Sarathi, Shaheb Bhattacharjee and others.
The album of Romantic Noy has three songs ‘Prano Bhoriyae’, ‘Amar Sahor’ , ‘Katobar Bhebechinu’. The songs have been composed by Subhayu and the lyrics are by Rabindranath Tagore and Neel Shikhar Aich. Singers who have lent their voices to the songs in the film consist of Rupankar, Sujay and Dipanwita.
The story of the film revolves around a small town guy who comes to Kolkata with a lot of dreams. He wants to be something and Kolkata to him is like a land of opportunities. Then what happens to him? Is he able to fulfill his dreams? The answer to these questions forms the climax of the story.
Romantic Noy has been written and directed by Rajib Chowdhury and is slated for release soon.

The story and screenplay of the film Hothat Dekha has been derived from the poem Hotat Dekha by Rabindranath Tagore.
The music and background score of Hotath Dekha is by Raja Narayan Deb. The songs have been sung by Kartick Das Baul, Monomoy Bhattacharya, Suvomita, Anupam Roy and Rejwana Chowdhury Banya respectively. The lyrics are by Rabindranath Tagore, Bhaba Pagla, Lalan Fakir and Gautam Susmit.
Debasree Roy, Sankar Chakaborty, Partha Sarathi Deb, Avik Ghosh, Ilias Kanchan, Kartick Das Baul, Premankur Chakaborty will be seen in pivotal roles in this upcoming Bengali film.
The film Hothat Dekha is an Indo-Bangladesh joint venture and will also be shown at the 22nd Kolkata International Film Festival.
