The 21st Kolkata International Film Festival ended with a glamorous event held at Nazrul Mancha. The closing ceremony saw the presence of Sharmila Tagore, Tabu, Ministers like Firhad Hakim, Aroop Biswas, Subrata Mukherjee and many other such dignitaries.
Colombian filmmaker Libia Stella Gomez won the much coveted Golden Royal Bengal Tiger Award for best woman director. The Hungarian film “The Wednesday Child” won the accolade for best film at the festival.
Apart from Sharmila Tagore, the jury comprised of renowned Chinese-American actress Bai Ling, Polish director Filip Marczewski, Israeli filmmaker Samuel Maoz and Sri Lankan actress Swarna Mallawarachchi.
Sharmila Tagore was highly appreciative of the efforts of Yemeni director Khadija Al Salami who is also the first woman director from Yemen. “I am Nojoom, Age 10 and Divorced” which depicted the pangs of women in the name of tradition and religion has been received well both by the critics and the masses alike.
The eight day film festival ended with much fervor, leaving us with the hope that the festival in the coming year will scale new heights.
