Interview: Actor Alik Banerjee on Playing Ved in New Colors Bangla Serial Benebou

Making his debut with the Colors Bangla serial Benebou, model turned actor Alik Banerjee is excited about his role as Ved in the coming serial. The young actor who finished his graduation the last year from Bangabasi College has finally started fulfilling his long cherished dream of becoming an actor. Sholoana Bangaliana correspondent caught up with this budding new talent in between shots at a studio in Joka. Here is how it went..

Priyanka Dutta, Sholoana Bangaliana- How did you bag the role of Ved in Benebou?

Alik Banerjee- Yes, that is very interesting I must say. I auditioned for the role by sending pictures. But even the pictures were not sent by me. That was sent by the coordinator who gave me modeling assignments. I have worked for companies like Snap Deal, Flipkart and also for the top designers in Kolkata. I have done numerous ramp shows too. So after the coordinator sent the picture, I received a call from Colors Bangla asking me to come for the auditions. I auditioned and then I was the top among the seven participants selected. Meanwhile I had received a call from Snehashish da and he selected me also. It was a win-win situation for me. A dream came true to become an actor finally.

You are passionate about acting, judging from what you are saying. When did the acting bug bit you?

Alik Banerjee- I wanted to become an actor from a very small age. When I was in class six or seven, people used to ask me what I wanted to become when I grow up. I always said I wanted to become an actor. I was very clear about what I wanted to become.

How has your family reacted to your decision of becoming an actor?

Alik Banerjee- Well, I live in a joint family and I am the darling of the family members. I live in Belaghata. Initially my parents like all parents used to say why I am opting for this profession and not joining the family business. After seeing my passion for this profession, they are now extremely supportive of my decisions. I have been modeling since my first year in college. Without their help that would not have been possible.

Modeling and acting are two different platforms. How are you finding acting now that you have experienced modeling beforehand?

Alik Banerjee- Modeling and acting is different. Modeling is a one day affair. On the other hand, when I am acting, the cast and crew becomes your family. The two professions are different but I am enjoying both.

Now that you are fully into acting, will you continue your stint as the model?

Alik Banerjee- No, that will not be possible at the moment!! Most of my time goes in acting and I am also contract bound. I miss walking on the ramp very much. I have cancelled three ramp shows now for my acting in the serial Benebou.

How are you gearing up for portraying Ved in Benebou?

Alik Banerjee- I have done workshops to portray the character of Ved in the serial. The director has been very helpful in making me understand how to portray my character. Where I need to use high pitch voice, where I need to use low pitch voice has all been told to me by the director. This has been very helpful. Moreover, I have watched films like Aashiqui 2, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Belaseshe to help in portraying the character better. I have watched the films before but I have watched them once again with more concentration. The last film I watched is Ki and Ka.

Wishing Alik all the best for his future endeavors!!

Interview: Actor Somraj on Playing Abir in New Zee Bangla Serial Ei Cheleta Bhelbeleta (Sholoana Bangaliana Exclusive)

An engineer by profession, actor Somraj was bit by the acting bug during his stay in UK. Sholoana Bangaliana correspondent caught up with the actor who is presently acting in the serial Ei Cheleta Bhelbheleta. Excerpts…

Priyanka Dutta, Sholoana Bangaliana- An engineer who turns into an actor- How did this transformation happen?

Somraj- During my stay in the U.K, I used to watch all kinds of films. I was living alone then and that loneliness helped me to connect with my roots too. This happens with everyone who stays alone outside the country. They want to be connected to their homeland in one way or the other. My medium was films. I also used to practice acting in front of the mirror.  So when my Visa expired and I came back, destiny took me to acting in films.

Tell us something about the character that you play in Ei Cheleta Bhelbheleta..

Somraj- I play the role of Abir, who goes to visit Punnolokhi, his grandmother’s acquaintance. He is a shy and introvert boy. His sole interest is his studies. Due to his introvert nature, he also cannot mix freely with girls. He goes to the village and meets Shaluk who is naughty and talkative. They slowly warm up to each other and visit village fairs and watch puppet shows together. Shaluk meanwhile is to get married to a rich man’s son from the village. The boy dies and seeing what can happen to Shaluk, Abir’s grandmother gets her married to Abir. When they go back, Abir’s family members all are shocked. What happens next? For that you will have to watch the serial.

Is this your first serial or have you worked before?

Somraj– I have worked before too. I have done serials like Gauridaan and Thik Jeno Love Story before I landed up with this role.

You are working with so many veteran actors like Sabitri Chatterjee, Anusua Majumder and others. How is the experience like?

Somraj- Well. I am very excited and also tensed at the moment. I am trying to catch up with them. I am also getting to learn so much from them. My mother is a huge fan of Sabitri Chatterjee and she was excited when she heard I am working with her. I have learnt quite a few nuances of acting from my other two serials but this one is turning to be a real learning platform for me.

Apart from this, is acting in films on the cards for you?

Somraj- Well, yes definitely. I will be trying my luck there too. But I have just entered this industry. I want to brush up my acting skills before I take the plunge into films. However, if I get a good role and a good script, I will not be hesitant.

So do you have any wish list of directors with whom you would like to work?

Somraj- See, I would like to work in both commercial and parallel films. I do not want to restrict myself to any genre. And if you speak of a wish list, I will like to work with Raj Chakraborty and Srijit Mukherji. Let’s see what happens. At the moment I will like to take small steps towards my goal.

We wish the young and talented actor take small steps to stardom!! All the best Somraj…
