The film is based on the real life incident of Naval Officer K. M. Nanavati. Akshay Kumar will be playing a naval officer for the first time in his life. “Director Tinu Suresh Desai and writer Vipul K Rawal have done immediate research for two long years. The person who has penned down the script was himself in the Navy. So we took every help in deciding how I look in the film to any other details” said Akshay Kumar.

The actor also added that the film is not based on the Parsi religion and hence he did not have to go through details about the religion or its rituals. “I am just playing a Parsi character. I have a lot of Parsi friends. My manager Zenobia is also a Parsi and I have been learning from them”.

Ileana-D-Cruz-Rustom

Ileana D’Cruz who played the role of a Bengali girl in Barfi said “I love coming back to Kolkata. My debut film Barfi showcased me as a Bengali girl. Though I was nervous, the audience liked me. And one more thing that I will like to add is whenever I come here, I eat so much”.

Akshay when questioned about how he could do so many films in a year said “I do only four films and after that so many days remain free. I could easily do six films a year but I stick to doing four films only. The free days I spend time with my family. Moreover there is so much work that there is work for everyone in the industry”.

Esha-Gupta-Rustom

Esha Gupta who is playing a character with shades of grey was inspired from Priyanka Chopra’s negative act in Aitraaz and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s act in Khakee. “I play the sister of the person who gets killed. My main aim is to get Rustom punished at all costs. This is indeed a nice and negative character that I played in this film” said the actress.

The film is slated for release on the 12th of August.

Kolkata Bangla Tollywood Movie Shobdo now to be made in Hindi by Kaushik Ganguly

Kaushik GangulyBengal’s pride Kaushik Ganguly will once again, be seen working in Mumbai, this time directing the Hindi remake of his own film ‘SHOBDO‘.

After winning the ‘Best’ regional film award in last year’s National Award ceremony, Shobdo is being highly praised not only nationally but also globally as well. This highly acclaimed Kolkata Bangla Tollywood Movie has received immense positive response from all the International Film Festivals, wherever it got featured.

Keeping in mind, this overwhelming audience & critic’s responses, Anurag Basu and Ranbir Kapoor jointly have decided to recreate this Bengali Masterpiece in Hindi under the banner of their newly launched production house. Being a Bengali himself Anurag Basu has always been very appreciative towards the modern trend of Tollywood film making.

Anurag and Kaushik share a very special bond and their relationship goes back to the time when Kaushik Ganguly used to direct a very popular Hindi daily soap, named ‘Rahat’ for Zee Television Network. It was some 15 years back when Kaushik & Churni Ganguly both used to work in Mumbai for Zee Television Network and Anurag was an advertisement/documentary filmmaker then. Now both of them are successful feature film directors in their respective domains.

After the immense success of ‘Barfi’ Anurag Basu and Ranbir Kapoor both teamed up to initiate a new production house and the remake of ‘Shobdo’ will be their first project. Though Anurag Basu could have directed the Hindi version of ‘Shobdo’ himself but he still approached Kaushik Ganguly to once again take up the director’s baton for the Hindi version of “Shobdo” as well. As learned from our Mumbai sources, very soon Anurag Basu and Kaushik Ganguly would meet up to finalize the Hindi script as they are planning to incorporate some new twists and angles to the story line as Anurag strongly felt that there must be some fresh elements to re-motivate Kasuhik Ganguly to direct the same film yet again.

Bollywood Hindi Movie Hero Irfan Khan

They are also busy zeroing down on the lead protagonist’s character, which was brilliantly enacted by Ritwik Chakraborty in the original film. Anurag Basu isn’t thinking about recasting Ritwik Chakraborty in the Hindi remake because he feels that this would be too early a leap for Ritwik in the highly competitive Bollywood arena.

Bollywood Hindi movie producer Anurag BasuThe Producer also feels that Hindi ‘Shabd’ essentially requires a National Face to play the lead character, someone who has got an International recognition & reputation as a performer. Irfan Khan is being considered to be the front runner for the role and the Second choice is the ‘Kaahani’ actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The character of the lady Psychiatrist, played by Churni Ganguly most probably will go to either Vidya Balan or Divya Dutta and Victor Banerjee would repeat his role in the Hindi version as well. Anurag Basu did not consider his friend cum partner Ranbir Kapoor for the lead role because he is already planning a film (based on Kishore Kumar‘s life) with Ranbir Kapoor in the lead and Ranbir’s date schedule is so tight that he will only be able to do either of the two.

It all started with “Bhooter Bhobisyot” and now its “Shabdo”, it seems that 20013-14 will be that landmark juncture when Bollywood will officially salute the talent of Tollywood.
