Asha Audio Company launched actress and singer, Ms Swagata Mukherjee’s folk album ‘Banjara’. Shri Debashish Kumar, Honorable MMIC, Parks & Gardens, Government of West Bengal, Mahua Lahiri, Violin Brothers were present for the launch.
Banjara is an album of Voice and Violin which has been conceived and composed by Debshankar Roy and Jyotishankar Roy, who are well known as the Violin Brothers. The album is a culmination of traditional folk songs with ethnic music orientation.
“I am passionate about singing and when I was offered such a fusion album, was extremely ecstatic. I hope I have been able to justify the confidence everybody had in me and look forward to the feedbacks from the audience after they hear the album,” said Ms Swagata Mukherjee.
The album is a traditional mix with different use of instruments like, ‘Bihu’ with Afro rhythm and the use of African traditional instruments like ‘Kora’, Rajasthani music with ‘Mand’, Arabian musical thoughts, ethnic – oriental music with ‘Jhumur’, a typical Bengali folk, country style of fiddle with ‘Goan’ song and Bhangra with funk, a well-known form of jazz and other such styles.
Himadri Sekhar Dey has created the music of the album. There are six songs in the album which are Tu Dekhi Murgha (Assamese folk song), Kali teri guthipe (Punjabi Kurki folk), Ya Ya mayaia (Goan Konkani folk), Ashin mashey (Bengali jhumur folk), Tomra Gailey Ki (Bengali Bhayaia folk) & Keshariya (Rajasthani Mand Folk).
