Video: Launch of Book ‘Beyond Apu’ with Soumitra Chatterjee
HarperCollins Publishers India released the book BEYOND APU, 20 favorite film roles of Soumitra Chatterjee by Amitava Nag recently at the Quest Mall outlet. The book launch was graced with the presence of Soumitra Chatterjee, Amitava Nag, Shoma A Chatterjee and others.
Beyond Apu – 20 Favourite Film Roles looks at the cinematic life of the veteran actor through twenty of the most iconic characters he has portrayed in different films. Handpicked by the star himself, it covers films like Apur Sansar, Samapti, Jhinder Bandi, Akash Kusum, Charulata, Atanka, Ghare Baire, Ashani Sanket and so on. Including insightful essays on his theatre and other artistic achievements, this book not only introduces the reader to an icon of Indian cinema but also offers a unique insight into the mind of a genius.
“This is indeed a great book. I have done many films with other eminent directors but the audiences are not even aware of many of these films. Most people associate me with the films I have done with Satyajt Ray. But that accounts for a few films out of the three hundred plus films that I have done till now. So this is indeed a great endeavor for the audience to be aware of films which I have done and which they may not have watched till now” said veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee.
The book was followed by an interesting conversation with the veteran actor and the author Amitava Nag. Ace journalist and writer Dr. Shoma A Chatterjee moderated the launch event.
The book is available in paperback format and is priced at Rs 350.
Launch of Actor Arjun Chakraborty’s Book Arjuner Awkobita
Renowned actor- director Arjun Chakraborty launched his first collection of poetry titled “Arjuner Awkobita”— In search of Love-In search of Life at Starmark, South City in presence of noted personalities like Srijato, painter Jogen Chowdhury, writer Sirsendu Mukhopadhyay, Tollywood actress Rachana Banerjee and others.
The book comprises of around 101 poems written by the actor. “I was always inclined towards literature and writing poems is something I enjoy very much. Coming out with the collection of my poems was in my mind for a long time, I am glad that my vision got materialized at the right time”, said the actor.
Tridib Chatterjee on behalf of Patra Bharati hosted the event and also addressed the media. Rachana Banerjee not only read one of his poems but also said that with these poems she will be able to understand Arjun Chakraborty in a new light altogether.
“Arjuner Awkobita” revolves mainly around the poet’s childhood memories which he cherishes till now. It also tells about the important persons in his life who helped him in his path of life.
The event also saw the presence of Arjun’s wife Nilanjana Chakraborty, Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee and others who came to cheer the actor-singer who turned poet with this book.
Kalkatta, A Book on Life of Gigolo by Kunal Basu Launched
Kunal Basu’s book “Kalkatta” which is based on the life of a Gigolo has been creating much uproar amongst the book lovers. A reading session on the book and a bilingual adda session was also organized on the theme Dear Kolkata at the South City outlet of Star Mark.
Apart from the writer eminent personalities like Anindyo Chatterjee, Srijato, Chandril Bhattacharya, Aniruddha Roy Choudhury were also present at the occasion.
Speaking about the book, the author said “Walking is the best way to explore the city. During my walking expeditions to various parts of the city, I have come across interesting people. It is in this way that I have researched and found out details about Gigolos and their lives. It was a taxing endeavor for sure. They are just like any normal man. Spotting them in broad daylight is a challenge. Hence I had to frequently go during the night time to actually know about them and their lives”.
Chandril Bhattacharya while speaking about the city of Kolkata during the adda session said “I cannot go beyond my comfort level. Hence I will not prefer to go to unexplored places in the city and know about them unlike Mr. Basu. However I believe that in a city, there are many cities hidden within it”.
The animated discussion kept the listeners engrossed at the session for sure!!
The success party of Anandadin Magazine took place recently at The Myx, located in Park Street. The party was organized by the team of Anandadin and Parinita Magazine to celebrate the astounding success of their last issue (June 2015 issue), which featured Tollywood’s numero uno actress Rituparna Sengupta.
The event also saw the celebration of director Raja Chanda’s birthday, who also is the creative head director of the magazine.
The success party saw the presence of many eminent Tollywood celebrities like Monami Ghosh, Sayani Ghosh, Ushashie and others.
Looking gorgeous in a black dress, actress Rituparna Sengupta cast a pretty picture. The actress cut the cake along with Raja Chanda and also posed with the June issue readily for the photographers.

Rabindranath Tagore has been helping many individuals in many ways with his writings and has many a times soothed, inspired as well as motivatedgenerations. Eminent singer Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta is another such individual who has been able to cope up with her personal loss with the help of the writings of the Bard. Recently at an event she launched her debut book Galaxy which is a collection of fifty three songs of the Bard which has been translated into English poems by the singer. Hand drawn illustrations by the singer along with a DVD which offeres a few poems and songs sung by her at live concerts are also available with this book. Srikanto Acharya, Joy Goswami, Agnimitra Paul, Rangan Bandopadhyay graced the occasion of the book launch.
Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta’s debut book Galaxy Launched at Starmark Kolkata
“My mother passed away a few months back. I was so grieved that I did not know how to cope up with the loss. It is then that I resorted to Tagore and started translating the songs. The poems that I have translated are my humble way of presenting the songs of Tagore in a new way to the readers. I have also been trying to extract the richness from the writings of the Bard. The book is dedicated to my mother and since many of you have not met my mother, the book will itself introduce you to my mother” said Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta while speaking to Sholoana Bangaliana.
Agnimitra Paul, eminent designer and a close friend of the singer said “Swagatalakshmi is like an elder sister to me. She is a multi-talented individual. She can sing, paint and recite- in short a woman with multiple talents. After coming to this book launch event, I have understood that there are various ways with the help of which one can cope up with one’s personal loss”.
Poet Joy Goswami who praised Swagatalakshmi for her valiant efforts also hailed the singer as one of the best of his generation. “Swagatalakshmi may not be a practiced writer but her efforts show in her writings” said the poet.
Swagatalakshmi even regaled the audience with her powerful rendition of “Dariye acho tumi amar gaaner opare” followed by the English translation of the same piece.
The book published by Patra Bharati has been priced at Rs. 799.
