New Kolkata Bengali Movie Hrid Majharey Hand Painted Poster Launched

There was a time when the film posters used to be painstakingly hand painted by skilled artists. Some were loud, some over the top while some had unnatural colors to enhance the bohemian appearance of the posters. From Baburao painter to the great M. F. Hussain, all have made their contribution to this art form. This art form which was dying away was initially revived by the 2013 Bengali film Mishawr Rawhoshyo designed by Grinning Tree and has again been brought forward in the upcoming Bengali film Hrid Majharey, where the posters of the film have been designed painstakingly by Arindam Biswas. The poster unveiling was done at Shuvaprasanya Arts Acre in the presence of director Ranjan Ghosh, Abir Chatterjee, Shuvapasanya, Ayaan and others.

Ranjan Ghosh’s Hrid Majharey pays a tribute to the dying art form and will remind many of the Eastman colored films. The posters have been designed by Soubhik Payra in the acryliHrid Majhareyaint format on canvas. Souvik Misra of SOS Ideas has been the supervisor.

“It feels good to see yourself painted on the posters of the film. This is a dying tradition and many films made earlier had hand drawn posters. For instance Goopi Gayen Bagha Bayen had hand drawn pictures by Satyajit Ray. Hence one can very well understand the importance of this art form” said Abir Chatterjee. The actor also shared some experiences of shooting at the Andamans. “We shot at many locations which had been ransacked by the tsunami. We also shot at the Cellular Jail where many freedom fighters were put into captivity. You feel proud when you go to such places. There are pillars where many Bengalis have written their names and the number is huge. This shows the importance of Bengalis in the freedom struggle” added the actor.

The posters of Hrid Majharey that stars Abir Chatterjee, Raima Sen and Indrasish Roy in pivotal roles look appealing but we will have to wait and see whether the film lives up to the expectations and curiosity that it has generated among the audience.
