Video: Bollywood Film Mona Darling Press Conference

The press conference of the upcoming Bollywood film Mona Darling took place in the august presence of Divya Menon, Sanjay Suri, Suzanna Mukherjee and Anshuman Jha.

The film Mona Darling is a social media thriller. “Bengal loves thrillers and hopefully the film will be loved here. I was worried that since this is a social thriller, maybe someone else will be making it. This idea was in mind for the past five years and now this got made. With so many things happening on the social media now, this is indeed a good time for the release of the film” said Anshuman Jha.

“I play the Dean of the college where the incidents take place. He is a strict disciplinarian but he is also equally popular among the students. I said yes to this film because this is a thriller and this whodunit will keep the audiences hooked to the seats till the very end of the film” said Sanjay Suri.

Divya Menon plays the role of Sara in the film whose friend Mona gets into trouble due to some things posted on her social media account. Next people get killed and it is Sara who takes up the challenge to find out who did this. “I love thrillers and hence I said yes to the film. The second reason is when I was given the script, it was 80%. In order to know who did it, I said yes. It is immensely engrossing. And since Anshuman and I have a common background of working with Dibakar Banerjee, I said yes” said the actress.

Suzanna Mukherjee who plays Mona in the film mentioned that the team had a fun time shooting the film. “We played pranks on each other too. Sanjay Suri was the most senior actor and yet he was the most energetic person on the sets” said the actress. The actress who is a non-resident Bengali has some relatives in the city. She wants to polish her Bengali and do some good Bengali films.

The film is directed by Shashi Sudigala and produced by First Ray Films and is slated for release soon.

Interview: Model-Actress Ushoshi Sengupta on Her Debut Bengali film Eagoler Chokh (Sholoana Bangaliana Exclusive)

Ushoshi Sengupta won the title of I Am She – Miss Universe India. Later she represented India in Miss Universe 2010 held at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, Nevada. The super sexy model will soon be making her debut in Bengali films with Arindam Sil’s Eagoler Chokh. Sholoana Bangaliana correspondent caught up with the model in an exclusive conversation about her venture in Bengali films. Excerpts…

Priyanka Dutta, Sholoana Bangaliana- So tell us about the character you play in this film.

Ushoshi- I play Shyamangi, the sister of Jaya Ahsan in the film. Shyamangi’s sister is married.

How was your experience of working in you debut Bengali film?

Ushoshi- Well, I have been extremely lucky to have got such a film for my debut. Arindam Sil is a dream director to make you debut. Jaya Di whose sister I play in the film is an amazing actress. This is a dream team you see. I am so very excited about this film.

Did you get help from the senior actors?

Ushoshi- Absolutely!! Team Shabor is like a small happy family. I got great help from Apu da, Jaya di, June mam and the other actors whenever I have asked them. Riya who is also making her debut with this film bonded with me really well. Most of the time we were together!! Though she is a bit young, we have become good friends. Even after the shoot we are in touch. I am blessed that I could be a part of Shabor franchise and I hope to be a part of more films in future.

Modeling to acting- what similarities and dissimilarities did you find between the two worlds?

Ushoshi- Modeling and acting are two different ball games. When I used to do modeling I used to think acting will be easy. But when I stated acting, I realized it is different. You need to learn so many things. The actors who are trained have an advantage. You need to update yourself. The only advantage that I had was that I knew how to face the camera. With Soumik da as the camera man, you know that you will surely look pretty. Even Arindam Sir said Usho you are looking great!!

How did you bag this role?

Ushoshi- The name of the character is Shyamangi and since I have a dusky complexion, the choice was obvious. (smiles) Shyamangi is a confident and independent girl who stays in Singapore. She is an entrepreneur. She comes to Kolkata to visit her sister. She has many secrets and is a mystery herself. Arindam sir felt I fitted the bill perfectly and hence I was cast. The best thing is I did not have to act. I was playing myself on screen.

Did you do any research for the role?

Ushoshi- I followed strictly what Arindam sir asked me to do. He used to narrate me the scene and how he wanted me to act. That made things easy. I have always believed that there are no good or bad actors there is only good or bad directors!! I also saw a lot of Bengali films recommended by him. As a non-resident Bengali, we do not get to see much Bengali films. During the last three months, I have watched many Bengali films. I am amazed at the great work happening here.

My grandfather Madhusudan Banerjee was a film editor who worked with Satyajit Ray. He even won the National Award. I still have the card of artist’s forum of my grandfather. I also have his scissors with the help of which he used to cut films. Had he been alive he would have been very proud of me. My mother wanted to be an actress and now that I have become one, she is extremely proud of me.

We hope that the dusky beauty Ushoshi Sengupta makes a mark with her debut film, Eagoler Chokh. Best of luck!!
