Sahaj Parav-the root music festival organized by Dohar and Lopamudra productions was a three day musical extravaganza. It began on the 31st of July and ended on the 2nd of August. Held at the Rabindra Sadan premises, the root music festival in its second year saw many eminent musical personalities gracing the stage for the event.
The first day saw a musical gathering in the open area of the venue titled Sahaj Jatra. The inauguration of the Sahaj Parav 2015 was done by Padma Bhushan Teejan Bai and Santanu Moitra. Ustad Ali Ahmad Hussain Khan and Shri Balaram Hajra were felicitated on the first day of the event. The first day saw performances by Kirtan by Suman Bhattacharya, Debatoyi by Manipuri Dance Group and Pandabani by Padma Bhushan Smt. Teejan Bai.
The second day of the root music festival saw a great act of Bihu by Simanta Shekhar who hails from Assam. Champreng Badan by Sadagar Deb Burma from Tripura, Qawwali by Munawar Masoom from Madhya Pradesh and Sidi Goma (African Tribal Dance) by Sidi Dhamal Dance troupe from Gujarat kept the audiences enthralled.
The last day saw performances like Bangla Folk Songs by Surjyolal and Shailen from Bangladesh, Flute and other instrumental recital by Bheyali Folklore Group from Kerala, Gotipua by Chandramoni Prodhan from Odhisa and Baul and other devotional music by Parbati Baul. Padma Vibhushan Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia was felicitated at the event.
Apart from these events, every day at the Rabindra Sadan premises around 12 stalls showcased performances by folk musicians from around the region. On all three days, at Gaganendra Art gallery, an exhibition of masks from across India was also kept open for all visitors.
Sahaj Parav therefore was a great celebration of root music.
