From the Shooting Floor of New Bengali Movie Jatiswar: Jisshu Sengupta & Kabir Suman in action

tollywood hero jishu

The shooting of Srijit Mukherji’s most awaited movie “Jatiswar” was accomplished with a musical sequence, featuring actor Jisshu Sengupta & music director Kabir Suman himself.

Tollywood is eagerly waiting for the Mega film of the year “Jatiswar” as some of the big names of the Bengali film industry are associated with the project. As we know by now this film is director Srijit Mukherji’s dream venture and this time he has chosen such a delicate subject, which is intensely intimate to all Bengali’s.  The film is a musically romantic fiction, set in 2013 and is indirectly based on the classic history of poet-musician Anthony Firingee. The story also has a tinge of reincarnation skillfully woven into the thematic plot. According to sources from the industry, Jatiswar is possibly a remake of the iconic 1967 Bengali classic cinema, which featured Uttam Kumar and Tanuja in lead roles. Srijit Mukherji has got a unique style of crafting a cinema and believes in the theory of ‘film within a film”, a style which he has mastered right from his first feature film “Autograph”, which had Satyajit Ray’s  “Nayak ‘ was subtly represented onscreen as a sub plot to the main story of Autograph. Similarly in Jatiswar also, Srijit executed the same method and blended a new-age love story with a premium quality vintage classic.

 kabir suman songs

The romantic tale of Anthony Firingi and his Bengali – Hindu wife is already creating positive waves in the cultural arena of Bengal with a very popular drama, named “Antony –Soudamini” (produced by Purba Paschim), featuring theatre stalwarts like Gargi Roychowdhury & Rajat Gangopadhyay. After this hugely popular onstage production, now educated urban Bengali audiences are earnestly counting days to see this romantic saga onscreen. Prasenjit Chatterjee is also very excited to enact such an iconic character, which holds such an empathic impact in Bengal’s cultural heritage, especially in Bengal’s country music.  And when an iconic figure like Kabir Suman has composed the music for “Jaatishshor” and Indraadip Dasgupta is acting as his deputy, the expectations of the Bengali music lovers are heightening up like shooting rocket.
