IIHM Thai Food Festival Tu-Rian Organized; Over 100 Thai Delicacies on Offer For Patrons

One of the basic elements of Thai food is managing to create a harmony between the elements in the dish. Keeping this basic concept in mind, Indian Institute of Hotel Management, (IIHM) organized a grand Thai Food Festival “Tu-Rian”.

The festival was inaugurated by the Preecha Kaensa, Hon’ble Thai Consulate General, along with Mr. Gautam Deb, Tourism Minister, Government of West Bengal, Mr. Abdur Razzak Molla, Minister for Food Procurement and Horticulture, Government of West Bengal, Mr. Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Minister of State Sports and Youth Services, Mr. Debashis Sen, IAS, Principal Secretary, Urban Development Department, Government of West Bengal and Mr. Sabyasachi Dutta, Mayor, Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation as Guest of Honor at Newtown Mela Ground. Actor Rachana Banerjee also graced the event.

After the inauguration was over, a spectacular dance performance was presented by Sapphire Dance Academy. The final year students of IIHM organized 100 varieties of Thai cuisine to end their final year. The students created a mini Thailand which provided the visitors the exact look and feel of the country.

Some of the delicacies prepared by the students were Tom Yam (Hot & Sour Soup) – Central & North Region, Po Pia Sod (Spring Roll)- North Region, Pad Thai (Stir Fried Noodles)- Central & North Region, Satay -(Central Region), Khao Neow (Steam Sticky Rice)-North East Region, Poo Pad Pong Garee (Stir Fried Crab Curry)-North East Region, Gai Yang Esan (Barbequed Chicken)-North East Region, Som Tam Esan(Papaya Salad)-North East Region, Gluay Kaeg (Fried Banana)- Central Plain and Khao Neow Kaew(Sweet Sticky Rice- (Central Plain).

The event saw a spirited performance by the band Crosswings which kept the audience engaged.

Bon Appétit has come up with new pancake items to their menu in this festive season. Eggless variants are also available for the customers who maintain a strict restriction during this time. There are options for the veggies too who would only go for greens during these days.

Hotel Sonnet Pujo Menu Launch Graced by Kyra Dutt, Riddhi Bandopadhyay and Sharbari Datta

The long, lost chops will be brought back in the Durga Puja menu of Hotel Sonnet. The Pujo menu will focus on different kinds of chops which are no longer easily available at the stores. The long lost chops from different parts of the country have been made available during the food festival.

Actress Kyra Dutt, singer Riddhi Bandopadhyay and fashion designer Sharbari Datta was present at the occasion of the Pujo menu launch.

Chalkumror bora, Morogmonohara, Echorer chop, Patsakher bora is some of the different kinds of chops which will be made available to the customers. A chef will be present who will take the orders and make the chops live. The chops will be served in baskets as it is done in the roadside stalls. This has been done to lend an aura of authenticity to the feel of consuming chops.

The main course dishes consist of authentic, traditional Bengali items. Hilsa, lobster, chicken, mutton will also be available in different mouthwatering dishes for the customers.

The menu will be available in both buffet and a-la-carte way and different kinds of chops will be available on different days of the festival.

The food festival will start from 5th and continue till the 11th of September at Hotel Sonnet.

75 Glorious Years of Shiraz Celebrated with Cast of Bengali Film Eagoler Chokh

Shiraz Golden Restaurant celebrated 75 years of its legacy at a gala do at their flagship restaurant. Actors Saswata Chatterjee, Ushoshi, Riya Banik, Subhrajit, Director Arindam Sil of Eagoler Chokh was present at Shiraz Golden Restaurant for the occasion. They were served a specially made phirni in the shape of 75 along with delectable biryani.

Two young men Mohammed Arshad Ali and Ali Hussain came to the city of Kolkata from Bihar way back in 1941 with the dream of gifting the city Mughlai cuisine. They met Mohammed Shamshuddin, who was descendant of Chef to Nawab Wajid Ali Shah, and started off a restaurant at Mullick Bazaar. They named the place Shiraz, after the second biggest city in Iran, which is also famous for its exotic food.

“It gives me immense pleasure to celebrate 75 years of Shiraz. My father late Mohammed Arshad Ali with his partner late Mr Ali Hussain, who started Shiraz, had a dream and I am very proud that we could take that dream forward” said Mr Ishtiaque Ahmed, Partner, Shiraz Golden Restaurant.

If these three people had been alive today they would have been supremely proud of the legacy of Awadhi cuisine that they have gifted this city.
