Musical Mahefil initiated by Tabla maestro Pandit Tanmoy Bose
To revive the long forgotten traditions of the Baithakis or soirees, Pandit Tanmoy Bose has taken up the initiative to organize Mahefils, which will be a yearlong program. This has been taken up with the support of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Institute of Asian Studies, Bihan Music and Krystys.
The first session of Mahefil was organized in the august presence of the renowned Hindustani Classical singer Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty. The singer was engaged in an animated discussion session on Hazrat Amir Khusroo who is credited for the creation of many ragas and several North Indian musical instruments.
Speaking at the occasion Pandit Tanmoy Bose said “With such soirees, the music lovers and students of music will benefit much. Coming to these sessions will help them interact directly with the renowned musicians and enhance their knowledge in the field of music”.
Mahefil will be organized every month on a weekend and eminent musicians will come and speak on various topics in music. The soirees have been scheduled on weekends so that more and more music lovers can join in the discussion.
The evening was an engaging and entertaining one with many music lovers gaining insight about the contributions to music by Amir Khusroo.
