Two young men Mohammed Arshad Ali and Ali Hussain came to the city of Kolkata from Bihar way back in 1941 with the dream of gifting the city Mughlai cuisine. They named the place Shiraz, after the second biggest city in Iran, which is also famous for its exotic food.

Are you tired of eating the same old North Indian dishes like Paneer butter masala, Chicken butter masala at the various restaurants? Then you must surely take time out and come to The Palms Restaurant for tasting some untried and delicious North Indian dishes.
The restaurant is located at Southern Avenue and hence is strategically placed. The ivory and golden décor gives a soothing look to the restaurant.
Priyadarsini Dey, owner of the restaurant said “The dishes have not been tried at any other restaurant serving North Indian food. We have taken authentic dishes and given it a slight twist. For example Murgh Saagwala is often made with Methi Saag in Kolkata. But that is wrong. It should always be made with Saarson ka Saag. We will be procuring the ingredients from outside which are not available here. Authenticity of the ingredients is ensured”.
Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes are available at this restaurant. Some of the dishes available at this restaurant include Khumb Nawabi, Murgh Saagwala, Nawabi Gosht, Joojeb Kawabs and other such mouth watering delicacies.
The prices of these dishes have been kept extremely affordable so that the customers’ can enjoy these delicacies at The Palms Restaurant.
Music wafting in the background, exquisitely carved interiors and the exotic smell of Biryanis will surely transport you to the land of the Nawabs. The fun is you do not have to travel to Lucknow to feel it. You simply have to visit Oudh 1590, which recently opened its branch in Salt Lake (CD 86, Sector 1, Behind City Centre 1). Actress Gargi Roy Chowdhury graced the occasion with her presence.
Shiladitya Chaudhury, Partner, Oudh 1590 said “After the success of the South Kolkata outlet, we thought of expanding in the North. Hence we planned to open this outlet in Salt Lake. We have opened about a month ago and people from all over North Kolkata are coming down to taste the dishes. The response has been extremely encouraging”.
The seventy two seater restaurant’s interior has been designed by eminent art director, Nitish Roy (who has worked in films like Parinda, Fanaa, Ghayal, Salaam Bombay and others). The murals, chandeliers, floor tiles, dining table, bronze plated cutlery and crockery all will transport you to the grandeur of the Nawabi era.
Fiber glass has been used to make the intricate designs on the walls. “We could have used wood to make these designs. But that would have taken ten years to complete. Hence we used this, which is costlier than wood but is easy to use” added Shiladitya Chaudhury.
