Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival 2017 Announced; Four Day Celebration of Art and Literature

Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival 2017 was announced with a Heritage Tour on the river Ganges. The Directors of the Festival namely Maina Bhagat and Anjum Katyal announced the festival at the event.

This is the eighth edition of the festival. The festival will be held at the Oxford Bookstore and at St.Paul’s Cathedral. The closing ceremony will be held at St. John’s Church.

The key highlights of the event are- announcement of the two day Oxford Junior Literary Festival and AKLF and UNICEF collaboration for UNICEF@70 global campaign, celebration of Bob Dylan’s winning Noble Prize in literature, book launches of ANCDesi by Priti Paul and Horse racing in India- a royal legacy by Lynn Deas, 3day poetry café, short film festival with Ilead, Kolkata Photo Festival 2017 and others.

Some of the eminent personalities who will be part of AKLF 2017 include names like Nabaneeta Dev Sen, Shobhaa De, Devdutt Pattanaik, Amit Chaudhuri, Nayantara Sahgal, Kunal Basu and others.

The festival will commemorate late writer and activist Mahasweta Devi with a documentary film screening Talking Writing: Four Conversations with Mahasweta Devi directed by Pushan Kripalani.

The four day long festival therefore has content and events for every age group!!

Solo Arts Festival Monologues 2016 Organized; Two Daylong Celebration of Art and Culture

City’s only solo arts festival, pHREEDOM4EVER Monologues 2016 was organized recently. Presented by pHREEDOM4EVER, an organization that aims to promote cultural excellence and brand equity with the right amount of commerce is the brain child of its founder Chaity Ghosh. The festival Monologues is the prodigy of Sujoy Prasad Chatterjee, a well known interdisciplinary artist from Kolkata.

This is the fifth year of the festival and the founders felicitated young achievers in arts, titled The Solo Room Awards. The festival began with eminent personalities like Srikanto Acharya, Rudraprasad Sengupta and Srijato giving away awards to young artists like Gaurav Chakraborty, Jaya Ahsan, Priyanka Sarkar, Saptarshi Maulik,Arna Mukhopadhyay, Turna Das, Soumyajit Majumdar, Parantap Ketan, Subhashis Dasgupta,Daminee Basu, Dipayan Ganguly. The festival began with a solo performance based on the theme fof emale impersonification in a male body by Sudarshan Chakravorty. A theatrical solo by Kartikey Tripathi based on Divya Prakash Dubey’s text Class Nine B and fusion vocals by Madhubanti Bagchi who presented Ghazals, Kajri, Thumri even folk songs, supported by Sibashish Banerjee were the other attractions.

The second day of the festival began with a solo vocal recital by Rupankar who performed songs of Bob Dylan, Rabindranath Tagore, Md Rafi. A solo play-reading based on Dukhe Keora by Ramkumar Mukhopadhyay was done by theatre thespian Debshankar Halder.

On both the days the festival had free entry for enthusiasts. The huge turn up of the audience proved how much the people appreciated this two day long festival.
