The book Lucy and the Train is about a journey of the self which leads to sustainability. Lucy boards a train after drinking a magic potion. Life will only be possible only if she goes to the first compartment and overcomes her nemesis.
Speaking at the launch, writer Anandajit Goswami said “The book may look from the covers as a simple book for the children. But in reality under the garb of this simplicity, I have tried to focus on issues as grave as sustainability”.
The book launch was followed by a lively discussion and interaction on sustainability.
Eminent dignitaries like Madhabi Mukherjee, author Debjani Halder, Saswata Chatterjee, Anindya Chattopadhyay, Samhati Ghatak and others were present at the book launch of Illuminating Agony Ritwik, a book on the filmmaker Ritwik Ghatak.
Dr. Debjani Halder evaluates the world of Ritwik Ghatak. She also tries to construct a conduit between the creations of Ghatak and history. The author has tried to explore the creations of Ghatak from different perspectives- Ritwik and the Marxist cultural movement, Partition and the agony of Ritwik Ghatak, Ritwik as the critic of post colonial society of Bengal, Inspiration of Ghatak’s creations and Women in Ghatak’s films.
Speaking at the event, Saswata Chatterjee said “I am indeed glad that I got the chance to portray him on screen. I only tried to copy him and his mannerisms. I will tell you an event. When the film Meghe Dhaka Tara was shown at a film festival in Kerala, the moment Ritwik was shown on screen, the audience clapped and whistled. It was not me who was getting the applause, it was the man. Such is his fan following”.
Veteran actress Madhabi Mukherjee who had worked with the legendary director said “Many find him a bit eccentric and foul mouthed. But he was indeed a man with a vision. He stuck to his ideals. I remember once a producer asked the number of songs and who will be the heroine of this film. He was so enraged that he said some foul words. Thank God the producer was a non-Bengali and could not understand anything. But one must see that he was very strict about his ideals and that is why I narrated this incident”.
Anindya Chattopadhyay said “I came to this event simply to listen to the stories of Madhabi di. He knows so much about Riwik Ghatak. This was indeed be an enriching session”.
