Legendary film-maker Buddhadeb Dasgupta’s latest film Tope-The Bait is all set to premiere at the “Masters of World Cinema“section of the Toronto International Film Festival 2016. It has also been invited to be a part of London and Busan Film festivals.
Five-time National Award Winner, Dasgupta was deeply satisfied at this rare honor and this is the seventh time that his film have been invited to be shown at the Masters in Toronto.
Tope or The Bait, authored by Late Narayan Gangopadhyay is considered an all time outstanding short story of Bengali Literature. Eminent critics have rated it as one of the ten best short stories ever written in Bengali. The story has been translated to other Indian and foreign languages.
The story centers around middle-aged Randeep, descendant of the royal family, and his quest to give a pair of shoes made of tiger skin to his lady love. Buddhadeb Dasgupta has done the script and dialogue, besides directing the film.
Ninety per cent of the film has been shot outdoors. Folklore plays an important role in the film. Treatment wise, the film is almost like an intense suspense thriller, dark and poignant.
The movie has also been selected for 21st Busan International Film Festival which commences from October 6.
