Christmas Carnival with a theme of Peace
Methodist School, Dankuni one of the most premier schools in the Hooghly district announced the much awaited Christmas carnival at a press meet held at the Calcutta Sports Journalists Club. Present at the occasion were Mr. Norton Emmanuel, Principal and Secretary, Methodist School, Animesh Ghosh, Arijit Mitra, S. Paul, director Ashoke Vishwanathan, actors Rana Sarkar and Dipa.
This year at the Christmas Carnival, the staff and the students at the Methodist School will be recalling the devotion and the sacrifices of the Indian soldiers during the World War One. This is a first of its kind initiative titled Peace on Earth. With the help of this initiative, one will also aim to remember the stories of those 1.3 million Indian soldiers who laid down their lives during the war and have been forgotten.
Speaking at the occasion, director Ashoke Vishwanathan said “This is a great initiative to make the children aware of the sacrifices of the soldiers and also to enable them understand that peace is what one should always aim for. War brings destruction it is never a constructive effort. Hence the students should try and maintain peace in their society and country”.
“The objective behind this Peace on Earth initiative is to help in spreading the message of peace across the world on the Centenary of the First World War. With the help of this event, we will be paying tribute to the unsung heroes who have laid down their lives for the war” said Mr. Norton Emmanuel.
The students of the Methodist School also gave a spirited dance performance in front of the guests. To help in spreading the Christmas cheer gifts were also distributed among the children of KKMERS NGO.
The Christmas Carnival will take place at the school premises on the 19th of December, 2014.
