Tollywood had not recovered from the shock of the untimely demise of the actor Pijush Ganguly, when director Bappaditya Bandopadhyay’s death again shocked all. Director Bappaditya Bandopadhyay who died an untimely death (at the age of 45 years) was mourned by the artists and the technicians.
His dead body was first taken to his home. Later it was taken to Technician’s Studio where Haranath Chakraborty, Debdut, Ushashie, Vikram and many others paid their respect to the director.
Bappaditya Bandopadhyay was known for his films like Elar Char Adhyay, Nayika Sangbad, Kantatar, Kagojer Bou, Kaal, Sampradan and others. He was never concerned with the box office success of his films. He instead focused on the content and presentation of the film with the help of which he wanted to bring about changes in the society.
Sohra Bridge, made on a tight budget by the director was also selected in the Indian Panorama at IFFI 2015. The film has actors from Bengali, Khasi and Assamese backgrounds.
Bappaditya Bandopadhyay had carved out a place of his own in the short time that he worked as a director. He had visions and aims that remained unfulfilled. We can just hope and pray that may his soul rest in peace!!
