Shantiniketan Style Bengali New Year Celebrations in Kolkata
A slice of Shantiniketan in the heart of the city!! Amazed? Then you must be doubly surprised to hear that this was part of the Poila Boisakh celebrations spearheaded by Chandra’s Green project Limited. On Bengali New Year’s Day, with the help of a soiree, the New Year was welcomed in the Shantiniketan style at The Tulip Banquet of Chandra’s Green Project.
Bengali fiction writer and recipient of many prestigious awards Shri Buddhadeb Guha was the Chief Guest of the Poila Boisakh celebrations.
Speaking at the occasion, Abhijit Laha, Director, Chandra’s Green Project Ltd. said, “We are extremely delighted to conduct such a show for the people of the city. This will be a good way of creating a much needed interface with Shantiniketan for the people of Kolkata. Given the fast pace of their lives, they also must have time to enjoy some relaxing moments and usher in the New Year”.
The celebrations began with the lighting of the lamp by the eminent dignitaries along with Shri Buddhadeb Guha. Priyam and Ritapa with their soulful renditions of Tagore songs kept the audience enthralled. Rabindrik Dance accompanied the songs which were performed by the students of Kaninika Nritya Mandir.
This was aptly followed with the mind blowing performances by Mr. Sandip Sengupta on Esraj, Baul songs by Gautam Das Baul and Santhali dance by Banerpukur Danga Adibasi Sampraday.
The welcoming of the New Year in the Shantiniketan style proved to be a huge hit among the audience present at the banquet on the auspicious occasion of Poila Boisakh.
