Tollywood Celebrities on the Beautiful Young Actress Pratyusha Banerjee’s Untimely Death

The death of the twenty four year old television actress Pratyusha Banerjee (Balika Badhu fame) has sparked up many issues in the minds of the people and the celebrities alike. Sholoana Bangaliana correspondent caught up with the Tollywood celebrities who shared their views on depression and the waste of life at the untimely demise of the bright actress.

Gargi Roy Chowdhury– I did not know her personally but her death is a waste of a bright life. I am not seeing her as an actress rather I will be taking her as a twenty four year old lady who could have achieved so much in her life. Depression is very common in not only our profession but in any other profession as well. Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra has also battled depression. Handling depression is an art. We must all know how to handle it. May her soul rest in peace!!

Abhijit Guha- What happens when you get success in your younger days is that you cannot handle it. That goes to your head. However the main thing that all must keep in mind is failure and success are two faces of the same coin. Hence, even if you have achieved success at a young age, one must be grounded so as to avoid depression.

Sudeshna Roy- This is indeed a sad an unfortunate event. What a waste of life and talent!! When one gets success in this field, they feel that their next project will be as successful as their first project. But that is often not the issue. This has happened with many big stars too who have tasted success with a film and their next five films may not have done so well. It is in such situations that supportive friends and family members play a very important role. The friends can keep the person rooted to reality and the family members can calm their distressed minds. Maybe Pratyusha lacked one or the other. Whatever may be the issue this is a very sad event.

Indrani Halder- After the serial Maryada ended, I had to sit idle for five months doing nothing. That period made me so distressed. I used to roam around alone and watch films. I also used to go around window shopping in Lokhandwala too. This is indeed a sad incident.

Koneenica- In our profession, often we have loads of work and at times we have no work at all. We must have caring family members and friends to back you at such times. Their help and care is like a balm. Pratyusha’s death is very saddening. Maybe she didn’t have one or the other support which is why it led to such a sad ending of a bright life.

Churni Ganguly- Life is never so smooth. There will be hurdles and difficulties. Even in the face of such problems, you will have to keep your zest for work alive. One must not give in to depression and other negative feelings.

The loss of a bright life like Pratyusha is very disheartening. So if you are suffering from depression, meditate, talk with friends or family members, do something which you like and keep yourself positively charged. Do not give way to depression.

May Pratyusha’s soul rest in peace and her family members have enough courage to face this tragedy!!

Kaushik Ganguly’s upcoming Bengali film Bastushaap’s music launch took place recently in the august presence of the director Kaushik Ganguly, Churni Ganguly, Srijato, Abir Chatterjee, Raima Sen and others.

Bastushaap deals with the concept of Vaastu and how it has an effect on the lives and relationships of individuals. This is for the first time that a film on such a topic has been made in Tollywood.

The music of this film has been composed by Indraadeep Dasgupta. Speaking about the music of the film, the ace music director said “This is a challenging as well as interesting project. I am awaiting audience feedback on the songs now”.

The film has five songs. Arijit Singh, Shreya Ghoshal, Bonnie Chakraborty, Rupankar Bagchi have lent their voices to the songs in the film. The lyrics have been penned down by Kaushik Ganguly and Srijato respectively.

“The story revolves around an isolated British bungalow located in Darjeeling. The members of the household consist of Arjun, Bonya, Antara, Kushal and Timir. Though they are wealthy and prosperous but they are not happy. Will the science of Vaastu help in getting back the lost happiness in their lives? Gautam Ghose and Churni Ganguly release poet Rajatsubhra Majumdar’s Albums

Bengali Poet Rajatsubhra Majumdar’s album launch

In the august presence of Gautam Ghose, Churni Ganguly and Ranjan Bandopadhay, poet Rajatsubhra Majumdar’s album “Tomar Songe Praaner Khelaa” and “Jekhane Holo Na Khela” was released. The event took place at Weaver’s Studio.

The album Tomar Songe Praaner Khela reflects the pain of separation. The album has been recited by Papri Chattopadhyay, interspersed with Rabindrasangeet which has been sung by Arkapriya and Rupankar Bagchi.

The other album Jekhane Holo Na Khela, recited by Piku Brahma with Rabindrasangeet by Jayati Bhattacharya and Srabani Sen was also released at the event.

Gautam Ghose was highly appreciative of the poet and called him a “romantic poet”. “He is very enthusiastic about his work which I find admirable about Rajatsubhra. The fact that two music CD’s are released proves that there are still listeners who buy albums, which is a very positive trend” said the ace director.

Churni Ganguly who had not read Rajatsubhra’s poems before was highly appreciative of his lucid language and the twists that the poems had at the end. “He gave me two books to read and I got the impression of his writing style by reading them. Where there is love, there is separation. This has been brought out wonderfully in his poems” said the actress.

Both the albums have been brought out by Raga Music and priced at Rs 99.

New Bengali Film Nirbashito Review; A Simplistic yet Touching Tale of Human Relationships

Churni Ganguly’s debut film Nirbashito had won accolades on the national and international circuit before its release in Kolkata. I was initially apprehensive as I had thought that the film will be too serious and will make statements on political issues. However I was pretty surprised at the way the film unfolded.

The film Nirbashito is the story of a writer who has to go on exile due to her liberal views on religion and her take on patriarchy. Trouble unfolds when she has to leave her dear cat, Baaghini back at her home. The cat is not only a pet but is like a daughter for the writer. The cat leads a lonely life and so does the writer in her exile. The writer’s friends try to send the cat to her but they do not succeed. She seeks solace in her new found friends in Sweden. The writer also realizes that values like commitment and humanity go across petty religious or political boundaries.

Actor turned director Churni Ganguly’s debut film gives the audience “food for thought”. It does not preach or underline any issue. It simply showcases what happens to an individual (woman in this case) when the person independently states facts which are not liked by the macrocosm of the society. The administration takes steps to prevent Baaghini to be sent to the writer in Sweden. This also suggests the high handed measures that the administration often takes to make their point to the people and suppress their individual liberties.

The film is cinematically beautiful and has been shot extremely well. Sirsha Ray, the DoP of the film deserves praise for the excellent camera work. The camera angles blended well with the way the director chose to narrate this tale of loneliness of a writer in exile.

The acting department consisting of Churni Ganguly, Raima Sen, Saswata Chatterjee along with Swedish actors Lars Bethke, Lia Boysenis, Martin Wallstrom, Joakim Granberg and Yohanna Idha have done a commendable job. They actually help in carrying forth the movie and also making the audience yearn for the writer to come back to her homeland.

Special mention must be made of the cat that played the role of Baaghini. She surely made a mark amongst the big names in the acting list. While the performance by the Labrador in Srijit Mukherji’s film Nirbaak had been highly praised by the audience and critics alike, the cat’s performance in Churni Ganguly’s Nirbashito is above all praises and criticisms. Baaghini is simply adorable!

Nirbashito is not a film which preaches anything or protests against anything. It is simply a beautifully told tale of an exiled writer and her cat. The film deserves to be seen for the human emotions it portrays.

The trailer of the much talked about film Rajkahini was released during the premiere show of Churni Ganguly’s debut film Nirbashito. The event took place at Priya Cinemas.

The film deals with that part of history which does not consist of important meetings and agreements or politicians of the Indian National Congress and Muslim League, but of the common people and the marginalized section of the society who bore the brunt of the tragedy.

The film’s background represents the temporal border between two nations, as it led to the birth of India and (east) Pakistan.

Speaking at the occasion, director Srijit Mukherji said “I had actually thought of releasing the film today. But my accident prevented me from doing so. The next best alternative that I could think of was releasing the trailer of the film and here I am with the trailer of my next directorial venture”.
