New Bengali Film Sajarur Kanta directed by Saibal Mitra is based on Saradindu Bandopadhyay’s novel by the same name. A press meet was held recently at DKS Club where director Saibal Mitra, Indraneil Sengupta, Konkona Sen Sharma, Dhritiman Chaterji, Biswajit Chakraborty, Dwijen Bandopadhyay, Kanchana Moitra and Debdut Ghosh were present.
“After the string of films being made on Byomkesh Bakshi, there has been a general curiosity among many people as to why Byomkesh is old in my film. The fact is I wanted to show that the sleuth left the profession only to return back years later. Hence the age gap” said the director. Dhritiman Chatterjee who is playing the role of Byomkesh in this film added that this film will be different from the other films on the detective.
The film Sajarur Kanta apart from having a mystery to solve also has a love angle to the main story. This gives this Bengali Movie a different angle also. The love story involves Dipa(Konkona Sen Sharma) and Debasish(Indraneil Sengupta). Dipa is a theatre actress and Debasish’s wife. Initially scared as she was not too sure about the motivations of Dipa, Konkona nevertheless has given her best in the movie.
Biswajit Chakraborty plays the role of Nripati. “Apart from being an actor in the theatre group, he is more of the organizer in the theatre group. From arranging for funds to resolving disputes, my character does them all. He is like the problem solver for the group” said the actor. Competent and comfortable are the two words the actor used to describe the director.
Theatre has been given much importance in this New Bengali Film Sajarur Kanta, much to the liking of actor Debdut Ghosh who is actively involved with theatre. He plays the role of a theatre actor Sujan in this film. Kanchana Moitra plays a complex character named Subhra. Subhra wanted to make it big as an actress but fails to achieve her aim.
A poem by Sukumar Ray has been used by music director Tejendra Narayan Majumdar in the film in the form of a song in the new Kolkata Bengali movie Sajarur Kanta. The song has been sung by Saikat Mitra. The song will be shot in a night club.
Sajarur Kanta raises high expectations among the audiences. We fervently hope it delivers a good result when the film releases.

New Bengali Film Singur which is an emotional thriller is set to release on February 7th and just before the grand release, in a press conference organized at the Calcutta Punjab Club, the cast and crew of the team came together to speak at length about this action and emotion packed thriller.
Singur is all about the emotional upheaval that a family goes through when their little son Poltu falls into a bore well dug near the house. The movie which primarily centers on the rescue operation and the prompt action of the Indian Armed Forces also has an intricately woven tale of relationships, social stigmas and the mother child relationship.
Model turned actor Mainak Banerjee, Anushree Basu, Pritha Sur and others shall be seen performing key roles in the movie. Gargi Banerjee who plays the role of a commando in the movie has also given her best and is quite hopeful that the audience will appreciate the effort that the team has put in. The child artist Bitan who plays the role of Poltu in the movie was also present at the press conference and as expected was the center of attraction. Stranger anxiety which is otherwise very common at the age in which the child artist Bitan is, seemed to be absolutely non-existent in the child and he was seen happily posing for the shutterbugs with his crew members.
This emotional thriller has been directed by Rajeev Gupta and produced by Ms. Ruby Agarwal who was also present at the press conference. Director Rajeev Gupta who has to his credit a lot of telefilms and cinema scripts has made this movie with a lot of passion which is quite evident from the trailers of the movie that was shown during the press meet.
With this bilingual film the team has not only tried to make good cinema but has also made an effort to create awareness amongst people so that such accidents can be avoided in future.
The movie is slated for release on February 7th and the makers are expecting a good response from the critics and audience alike.
After a span of fifteen long years, Tollywood Hero Prasenjit Chatterjee will be seen paired with his wife Arpita Chatterjee for an ad film for Senco Gold. The star couple of Tollywood has been signed by the jewelry company as their brand ambassadors for the new campaign called “Notun Tumi” or the “New You”. Mr. Shankar Sen, the Chairman of Senco Gold, Biswajit Chatterjee and Shuvaprasanna were present at the formal announcement function held at Hotel Hindustan International.
In a red sari, laden with wonderful gold ornaments, Arpita looked the quintessential Bengali wife. “I have a very long association with this jewelry company as I had done a campaign for them some twenty years ago. Innovative designs are what attract me to the jewelry made by this company. Whenever I wear the designs made by them, I really discover a new me” said the actress.
Black suit and rimless spectacles gave our very own Jatishwar, Tollywood Hero Prosenjit Chatterjee the look of a stately prince. The actor smiled and compared his transition in acting with the new concept of Notun Tumi. “With every film that I have done I have rediscovered myself. For example, it is after doing films like Moner Manush, and Jatiswar, I have realized that I am capable of doing such films too. Having done only commercial Bengali Films, I never thought I will be able to do justice to these roles too. I have reinvented and recreated myself. This is what the brand also does with the yellow metal. I have little knowledge of gold. But I love the designs of this company” said the actor with a smile. When asked about Arpita’s choice of gold jewelry, he said “I have always noticed that she is more interested in traditional designs. She always asks about how old the piece of jewelry is. This is her style of buying jewelry”.
The ad film that the star couple has shot for has been directed by Bengali Film Rangbaaz maker Raja Chanda and shall hit the screens soon.

The 100 day celebration was made all the more special with the launch of the Mishawr Rawhoshyo DVD by the team.
The common sentiment that echoed at the event was that the fact that this movie could run in the theaters for 100 days at a stretch is very gratifying for the team, more so because these days so many movies are being made and released every week that the audience is spoilt for choices.
With the successful completion of 100 days of the Bengali Film Mishawr Rawhoshyo, the audience is already looking forward to the next movie from the franchise and when asked about the same, Director Srijit Mukherji reassured the audience that it will surely happen and that too, very soon. Elaborating on this, the director also said that after having conquered the sands in the last movie, they would probably scale the mountains in the next Kakababu movie.
Speaking at the event, actor Prosenjit Chatterjee who has played the role of Kakababu in the movie congratulated and thanked the producers Shree Venkatesh Films for this wonderful endeavor and said that had it not been for their faith in the creativity of the people of Bengal such wonderful Bengali Films like Chander Pahar and Mishawr Rawhoshyo would not have been possible.
The young actors Tridha and Aryan who had played the roles of Rini and Sontu were also present at the celebration and both of them said that they are indeed lucky to have been a part of such a wonderful film.
The celebration culminated with the cutting of a cake to mark the memorable day.
