West Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Awards 2017 Held; Shree Venkatesh Films Won 13 Awards in Different Categories

The West Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Awards 2017 took place recently. Shree Venkatesh Films received 13 prestigious awards at West Bengal Film Journalists’ Association Awards 2017 for their films namely Cinemawala, Khawto, Eagoler Chokh and Zulfiqar.

Cinemawala won the Best Film award, Best director winner was Kaushik Ganguly for the same film. Paran Bandopadhyay and Prosenjit Chatterjee were named the ‘Best Actor’ for Cinemawala and Khwato. Sohini Sarkar was declared as the Most Promising Actress. Best Sound Designer and Best Editor awards went to Anirban Sengupta and Subhojit Singha respectively for Cinemawala.

Dev received the Most Popular Actor award for his performance of differently abled Markaz Ali in Zulfiqar. Best Actor in Negative Role went to Jisshu U Sengupta for playing Kashinath Kundu. The track Ek Purano Masjide sung by Nachiketa won him the Best Playback Singer award. Somnath Kundu won the Best Makeup Artist award for Zulfiqar. Best Actress award went to Rituparna Sengupta for Praktan. The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Madhabi Mukherjee.

Eagoler Chokh received Best Background Score which was composed by Bickram Ghosh and Anirban Bhattacharya was hailed the Most Promising Actor of 2017.

3rd Hyderabad Bengali Film Festival; Treat for The Bengali Movie Buffs In The City

Are you living in Hyderabad? And you do not get to see the latest released Bengali movies? Do not worry as the third edition of the Hyderabad Bengali Film Festival will be catering to your needs and showcasing some of the popular Bengali films which have not only achieved acclaim in the country but also abroad.

The Hyderabad Bengali Film Festival (HBFF) is an initiative started by Bengalis living in Hyderabad. This is a not-for-profit cultural group. The group is run by a bunch of enthusiastic non-resident Bengalis to nurture Bengali culture and also help in cultural exchanges. The festival which began in 2014 is one of the three Bengali Film Festivals across the globe – after Dubai and Singapore. Every year eight Bengali movies are showcased including India premier of some movies.

The festival will include screening of movies (with subtitles) and a panel discussion – What makes a successful film: money, talent or networking? HBFF will premier two unreleased movies – Bridge and Kolkatar King. The other movies to be screened include Cinemawala, Anubrata Bhalo Acho?, Asa Jaoar Maajhe, Onyo Opala, Natoker Moto and Babar Naam Gandhiji.

The festival will begin on the 1st of July and continue till the 3rd at Prasad Preview Theatre.

Director Kaushik Ganguly’s New Bengali Film Cinemawala Premieres in Kolkata

The premiere of ace director Kaushik Ganguly’s film Cinemawala took place recently at South City Inox. A host of Tollywood celebrities graced the occasion and added to the glitz and glamour of the event.

The film “Cinemawala” is a farewell to celluloid and is set against a poignant backdrop of celluloid cinema. Cinemawala narrates the tale of father-son’s strained relationship. With this film director Kaushik Ganguly pays his tribute to the vanishing craft of celluloid cinema which has been the inspiration behind many dreams and has enabled people to go beyond their mundane everyday existence.

The team consisting of the director, actress Sohini Sarkar, Indraadip Dasgupta and others cut the cake just before the premiere show began.

“Cinemawala” has been honored with the prestigious UNESCO-Fellini award at IFFI 2015. The film has been shown at New York Indian Film Festival, 2016, Hidden Gems Film Festival, Calgary, 2016, Chennai International Film Festival- (CIFF), Pune International Film Festival, Indian Panorama Film Festival – Delhi, IFFK – Kerala and Bangalore International Film Festival.

The celebrities who turned up at the premiere show included Prosenjit Chatterjee, Subhosree, Mimi Chakraborty, Raj Chakraborty, Kaushani, Bony, Rittika, Gargi Roychowdhury, Raghav and many others.

The film is running at single screens and multiplexes. A must watch!!
