One Billion Rising
With the continual rise in violence against women globally, Twist N Turns organized a special program titled One Billion Rising Revolution to create awareness on this aspect. The event took place at Deshapriya Childrens’ Park where over hundred under privileged children from NGO’s participated in this noble initiative. The event also saw the active participation of the college students, school students, survivors of domestic violence and other citizens from various parts of the city.
One Billion Rising Revolution is held every year in the month of February. The main focus of the campaign is to throw light on the injustice meted out to the women in the society. With this campaign the women who are victims of violence will be made to understand to rise above violence and lead a normal life in the long run.
Bollywood actor Aamir Khan in 2014 had also lent his support for this noble initiative through his debut television show Satyamev Jayate.
Nikita Sangai of Twist N Turns said “Dance therapy is a good way to make the women come back to their normal lives and help them forget the violence. If two women’s lives can be changed with the help of this initiative, I will be more than happy”.
The event saw the performance to the theme song of One Billion Rising Revolution “Break the chain” and another song “I am alive”. A street play was also enacted to showcase and highlight the case of domestic violence globally.
Initiatives of this kind will help in enhancing the awareness among the people and also among the women who are silently suffering the pangs of violence in society.
