Annual Dance Concert of Footstompers Dance Academy
Renowned Dancer Vikram Gupta celebrated the tenth Annual dance Concert of his dance institution, Footstomper Dance Academy recently in front of a packed audience at Vidya Mandir. The dance concert was choreographed and directed by Vikram Gupta. Present at the dance concert were celebrity fashion designer Abhishek Dutta and model-actress Richa Sharma. The theme for this dance concert is the expression of the passion for dance.
Footstomper Dance academy is the brainchild of renowned choreographer Vikram Gupta. Vikram is a professional choreographer who had been dancing since he turned fifteen years old. He has been teaching dance professionally for ten years now. Some of the notable celebrities that he has worked with include Dev, Vidya Balan, Nusrat, Jisshu, Farhan Akhtar, Prachi Desai, Bipasha Basu and many more. He has also judged dance shows and runs an event management company called Shagun Entertainment.
The academy was started in Howrah and now has its centers at various places in Kolkata. With over two hundred plus students, the class size is small in number with about eight to ten students per class. This helps the students to grasp dancing better. The classes are held twice a week and one has to pay rupees twelve hundred for the classes. The individual charges for the other dance classes however differ.
Speaking at the occasion, designer Abhishek Dutta said “I cannot dance but I love to watch people dance. The children have so much confidence and watching them perform is a delight”. Richa Sharma promised to stay during the whole show and watch the small children perform.
The dance concert saw the spirited performances by students of all age groups learning dance in this dance school. They performed to many popular Bollywood dance numbers like Aj din hain Sunny Sunny, Aao re Aao and other songs.
The performances by the students surely proved that they were taught ably by their mentor Vikram Gupta. We hope that Vikam continues with the good job in future too.

Dance dramas or musicals which narrate stories entirely through poetic/rhyming dialogues, songs and dances have been popularized by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. With education becoming multi-dimensional these days, such musicals open up avenues for children to showcase their talent and learn simultaneously. Shuvan Sarada was formed by Sumita Ghosh with the primary intent to hone the artistic skills of people who want to remain associated with the creative field. Love for children and passion for music led to the formation of this multi-creativity centre.
Dance dramas incorporate characters from nature and fairy tales which are familiar for kids to relate to. They help in bringing out the central theme through lively choreography and musicals. With that in mind and to revive the concept of dance dramas, Sumita Ghosh’s “Pushpo Bashor” (A rendezvous with flowers) brings a remarkable tale of seven flowers in the backdrop of the wedding of the Princess and Prince of the flower kingdom. The CD of this dance drama was launched by Amit Roy, Kohinoor Sen Borat, Sashi Bhai, Chandan Dey Sarkar, Rajat Dey Sarkar and Sumita Ghosh. The high point of this musical is the use of different styles of dance (Both Indian classical and western), rhyming dialogues set to catchy tunes and vibrant costumes for the act. Light displays, props and shadow effects accentuate the drama.
The children of this multi-creativity centre showed their talent with some spirited dance and song performances. The children also showcased the dance drama Pushpo Bashor for the assembled audience. The colorful costumes and the rhyming dialogues surely are a treat to behold for the audience, especially the children.
This Bengali dance drama album will be brought out by Gathani Music Company. Well known artists like Haimanti Shukla, Srikanto Acharya, Monomoy Bhattacharya, Bhaswati Dutta, Koushik Sen, Shampa Kundu has contributed immensely to the making of this dance drama. Sumita Ghosh’s upcoming release consists of a music album called “Ashar Prodeep” which has been composed by her and the music arrangement has been done by renowned music arranger Durbadol Chatterjee.
Unicorns Dance Company ‘s Re-incarnation 3 presented “Onno Agomoni” a contemporary dance production based on invoking the power of a woman at the Satyajit Ray Auditorium,ICCR recently
Manu, the great lawgiver, said long ago, ‘where women are honored there resides the Gods’. Women are, thus befittingly called ‘Ardhangini’ (better half). They were given not only importance but equal position with men. And this is how it was at the inception of Indian civilization.
But…We live in a world full of changes. We live in a world where we do worship the woman as Durga, but do we really give regards to her?
The concept of “Agomoni” is no more to usher the supreme power of Goddess Durga… In the ruthless patriarchal society she is just a “Nirbhaya”. Is this what we wanted? In a society where woman molestation has become second nature, we use the myth of Durga to raise question. In this supposedly modernized world, if the approach to “Agomoni” has to be changed, can’t it be an “onno Agomoni” ?
The dance drama was conceptualized , choreographed and directed by Sourav Mondal and actress Moubani Sorcar perform as Durga.
There was another classical dance presentation which saw a fusion of Kathakali, Odissi and Manipuri dance forms performed by Kalmandalam. Goutam, Arnab Bandyopadhyay and Suman Sarawgi left the audience spellbound with their performances.
Apart from this painter Eleena Banik, TV actress Sneha Chatterjee and other celebrities also graced the occasion with their presence.
