Apeejay Kolkata literary Festival 2015 Announcement

Apeejay Surrendra Group and Oxford Bookstores announced the sixth edition of the Apeejay Kolkata literary Festival 2015 (AKLF 2015) which will be hosted in the city of Kolkata. The literary forum, which is a first of its kind initiative to be created by a book store is extended over a period of five days this year. Present at the press conference were Anjum Katyal and Maina Bhagat, Festival directors along with Mr. Fabrice Etienne, Consul General of France in Kolkata, Dr. Sreeradha Dutta, Director, Maulana Abul Kalam Institute of Asian Studies, Dr. Jayanta Sengupta, Secretary and Curator, Victoria Memorial Hall.

Some of the highlighting events of this festival include tribute to the first Indian Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his 125th birth anniversary. There will also be book launches by Shashi Tharoor, Saad Bin Jung, David Davidar, John Elliott and more. A stage rendition of Vikram Seth’s poetic parables by Naseeruddin Shah, Ratna Pathak Shah, Heeba Shah and Kenny Desai will appeal to the people. A host of literary initiatives for young adults, students and debut novelists with Read Rite, a student litfest, The Hero in Me, All about blogging and others will also be part of AKLF 2015. An interactive session with crime writers from across the European continent and India will also be done on this platform. An overview of the country’s tangible and intangible heritage will be discussed as part of the bi-centenary celebrations of the Indian National Museum.

For the first time in Kolkata, British playwright and novelist Hanif Kureishi will also be present to interact with the audience. Bollywood actress Tisca Chopra will also be present at the festival to interact and share her experiences with her fans.

Some of the festival venues include Oxford Bookstore, Indian Museum, Victoria Memorial Hall, National Library of India, ICCR, The Park, Lascar War Memorial, Tollygunje Club and Bengal Club.

The Apeejay Kolkata Festival will start from 14th January and shall continue till the 18th of January 2015.
