The idea of Ananda has been found often in the works of Tagore. This is central to his philosophical writings and also appears in the leitmotif in his songs. The concept of Ananda is not to be mixed with happiness which is opposite to sorrow. The best meaning of Ananda is bliss. This idea can be traced back to the ancient Indian literature of the Vedas. Tagore was initiated and exposed to the Vedas in his formative years by his father.

In the album, efforts have been made to juxtapose the Vedic verses with Tagore’s songs to trace this idea of Ananda. The Vedic hymns are also interpreted in English for those listeners who are not well acquainted with the ancient Indian language. The songs cover eight ragas belonging to eight praharas of the day.

The Vedic songs are by Sayan Mukherjee and the songs of Tagore by Debashish and Rohini Raychaudhuri. The commentary in English is done by Barun Chanda.

Priced at Rs 300, the album has been brought out by Hindusthan Records.
