Solo performances by music maestros Vishwa Mohan Bhatt on the Mohan Veena and Sunanda Patnaik in a voice recital welcomed the winter season at the 42nd annual convocation of the Pracheen Kala Kendra at Uttam Mancha. Sunanda Patnaik was awarded with the Lifetime Achievement award and the award was presented to her by Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, another musical stalwart. Yesteryear singer Subir Sen and Bharat Natyam maestro Thankamuni Kutty were also felicitated on the occasion.
The Chandigarh based Pracheen Kala Kendra has been acting as one of the principal promoters of dance and music in the eastern part of India. With 2600 centers located in the eastern region including Assam, Orissa, Bihar and West Bengal, the institution is thinking of starting more centers in the coming months to propagate music and dance.
The Convocation ceremony also witnessed the distribution of certificates to more than five thousand students of music belonging to the centers of the Kendra in the eastern region. Dr. Sujit Bose, former Vice Chancellor of Viswa-Bharati delivered the Convocation address while Manipuri dancer Debjani Chaliha was the Chef Guest for the occasion.
Debjani Chaliha said “The organization is doing a noble job of promoting Classical music amongst the young individuals. This is great service towards society”.
The Convocation ceremony was indeed a great opportunity for the music lovers to listen to the musical recitals by the maestros.
