Abani Babu is seated in his room reading a newspaper. Gita comes with her friend and introduces her to Abani Babu. This is the scene from the upcoming Bengali film Eka Ebong Eka by Sushanta Pal Chowdhury.
“The film is about two sisters Mita and Gita. Their father Abani Babu suffers from heart problems. Mita works in a private company to run the family and also to pay for her father’s treatment. Mita loves Pralay but their relationship does not last. Gita however is in love with Ranjan, the doctor who treats Abani babu. They are engaged to get married. However Ranjan dies due to a car accident two days before the marriage. What happens next is what the film is all about” said director Sushanta Pal Chowdhury in between the shots.
Abhishek Chatterjee plays the role of Ranjan, while Soumitra Chatterjee plays the role of Abani Babu. Saptamita plays the role of Mita. The other actors who will be seen essaying out important roles include Mahua Sen, Debopriya, Priyanka Ghosh, Ratri Goswami and others.
Saptamita who had played the role of daughter in many films with Soumitra Chatterjee was thrilled to share screen space again with the legend. “I have grown up watching his films and have loved him as Feluda. To share screen space with him again is a dream come true for me” said the actress.
The shooting of the film has been done at Select House, Diamond Harbour and is currently going on at Bharat Lakshmi Studios.
Director Sushanta Pal Chowdhury opined that since this is a film of a different genre, the film will target the multiplex audience. The director plans to release the film at multiplexes like Fame and Inox too.
Eka Ebong Eka is eyeing for a release at the end of January 2015.
