Cast and Crew Present at Music Launch Of Bengali Film Kuheli; First Bengali Film on Vampires

Video: Music launch of Bengali Film Kuheli

“The film Kuheli is not a remake of the yesteryear film of the same name. This is a different film. One can hail this as the first Bengali film on vampires. Despite being a thriller, it is essentially a romantic film. The Bengali audience love thrillers and hopefully they will love this too” said director Debarati Gupta at the music launch of the upcoming Bengali film Kuheli.

The music launch took place in the presence of director Debarati Gupta, Pujarini Ghosh, Indrasish Roy, Koushik Sen, Barun Chanda, Kinjal, Ujjaini, Mainak and others.

Pujarini Ghosh who looked beautiful in a short dress said “This is by far the toughest character that I have played so far. This is simply because the character that I play has some psychological issues. Showing them onscreen was a challenge. Portraying someone normal is a piece of cake because you see them every day. But to act like someone with a psychological problem requires deep level of understanding. Thankfully Debranjan Nag guided us during the workshop and that helped me much. Let’s see how the audience reacts to the portrayal of this character onscreen”.

Debarati Gupta also added “The film may be on vampires. But it is not the gory type. There is an element of thrill in the film along with this romance angle”.

The music of the film has been composed by Dolon-Mainak. There are three songs in the film which has been sung by Kinjal, Ujjaini and Timir Biswas.

The film is slated for release on 4th of November.

‘Janla Diye Bou Palalo’ Review, Premiere Pics; Resounds #HokHullor

The Runaway Bride

Director Aniket Chattopadhyay’s new Rom-Com ‘Janla Diye Bou Palalo’ premiered at Priya Cinema Kolkata on October 17th amidst much pomp and show making it look, sound and feel like a grand Bengali wedding, which makes for the basic plat of the movie.

Staring Actor Arjun Chakroborty and debutant Amrita Chattopadhyay, ‘Janla Diye Bou Palalo’ is essentially a comedy film with the Aniket Chattopadhyay signature and style written all over it. Mimi (played by Amrita), is the Bride (Bou) who, in order to escape marriage runs away from her home on the very night of her wedding and gets on a bus going to Siliguri. Upa Gupta, a brilliant student with a 17th Rank in the All India Medical Entrance Test is more an aspiring musician than a doctor, something that is just not acceptable to the boy’s family and which eventually results in him running away from home to a friend in Siliguri. And as was destined, the two rebels land up in the same bus, that too in adjoining seats and head to Siliguri; indeed with a trail of hilarious incidents brewing behind them as both the families set out on a roller-coaster ride to grab the two rebels and bring them back to their senses. To add to the complications, it is not just the families running after Upa and Mimi but is a thief Ille jagai too, as he had spotted the runaway bride decked up in Gold while she was on the run.

Jar Bou Palalo !!

The New Bengali Film Janla Diye Bou Palalo is essentially an Aniket Chatterjee movie as it is slapstick comedy that forms the basic framework of the film. Right from all the running around to the commotion of the cat and mouse chase, to the family drama, there is comedy everywhere. It must however be noted that, though comedy all around, the movie has a strong feel of Bangaliana to it and has beautifully portrayed the middle class Bengali sentiments where there is still that inherent love and respect for the elders of the family, where education has to culminate in white collared professions like that of a Doctor and where no matter what, the family is always there to fall back on for support.

The Runaway Rebels with the Orchestrator

Arjun Chakroborty who has played the role of Upo Gupta in the film has played his part with complete sincerity and his efforts at perfecting the essential traits of an entertainer, namely action, romance and dance brilliantly shone in the movie. Mimi, the debutant does her bit in playing the young runaway bride well but seems to be missing that X Factor that is needed to be on the top of the charts. As of now, Mimi is good for the ‘Girl Next door and Abla Nari’ kind of roles, at least till a director tries to experiment with the obvious. Biswajit Chakraborty and Biswanath Basu are too good in their parts and have indeed succeeded in drawing genuine cheers from the audience present. The pillars of comedy of Bengali cinema, Kharaj Mukherjee and Kanchan Mallick also had their bits to add to the overall comedy quotient but as the audience we were somehow left wanting for more, at least in terms of Kanchan’s screen time and character build up. Another big letdown was Sanjib Sarkar who played the role of ille Jagai as, neither could he perfect the South Indian accent nor was he given enough time on screen to build up the comedy. Had his character been worked upon a little more carefully, the director could have made little more difference to the film’s comic quotient.

Some bit of cutting short could have also helped in giving the movie that crisp treatment as, the portion in between with the Prem Nakuldana song and the bus ride with the Jatra Party were so not required and kept pulling down the film’s comedy meter.

The film’s music has been tastefully designed and the songs ‘Toke Dilam’ and ‘Swapno Dekhar Ektu Dure’ blend in well with the film’s flow and feel for which the music director Savvy as well as lyricist Prasen deserve due appreciation.

Family of Celebs

With janla Diye Bou Palao, Director Aniket Chattopadhyay has made an attempt to give the Bengali cine goers a family entertainer that has sumptuous doses of laughter and the producers Jalan International Films Pvt Ltd must be thanked for supporting him in his effort, more so when the state is going through such financial and political unrest adding on to the stress levels of the denizens.

Janla DiyeBou Palalo is a good weekend watch that you must attempt watching while the mind is in a non-critical and analytical mode as only then can you get the juice out of a typical Aniket Chatterjee slapstick comedy film.

Interview: Actor Arjun Chakraborty on New Bengali Film ‘Janla Diye Bou Palalo’; The Runaway Bride’s Partner in Crime

Arjun Chakraborty, the younger son of veteran Tollywood actor Sabyasachi Chakraborty has been mesmerizing the audience with his seasoned acting in films like Chirodini Tumi je Amar, Bonku Babu and others. The actor will be seen enacting the role of Upa Gupta in Aniket Chattopadhyay’s Friday release ‘Janla Die Bou Palalo’. Sholoana Bangaliana correspondent Priyanka Dutta caught up with the young actor for a quick sneak-peek into the making of this New Bengali Film….

Priyanka Dutta, Sholoana Bangaliana‘Janla Die Bou Palalo’ is a queer name for a Bengali film. When you were selected for the role, what was your initial reaction?

Arjun Chakraborty– Honestly, initially I was surprised on hearing the name. But when you know it is director Aniket Chattopadhyay at the helm of affairs such queer names do not sound new. Take for instance Bye Bye Bangkok or Mahapurush O Kaapurush- all have queer names. But once I was done with reading the script I was left with no doubts as to why the film was so named. The comic element was itself evident in the film and from the posters the audience must have now understood that they will be witnessing two hours of rib tickling genuine comedy.

Tell us something about your character Upa Gupta….

Arjun Chakraborty– Upa Gupta, the character that I play in the film is a studious boy but his real passion lies in music. To pursue his passion, he runs away from his home. What happens to Upa Gupta while he is on the run is what the film will unveil.

How was the experience of working with an experienced director like Aniket Chattopadhyay?

Arjun Chakraborty– Oh, I had a great time actually! I got to learn many nuances of acting from him. What was the most difficult part were the late night shoots, to which most of us were not accustomed to. The film demanded shots to be taken late at night. Hence we had night shifts. Still it was fabulous and I had a great learning experience.

You are paired opposite Amrita, who is making her debut in the Bengali Film industry with this film. How well did you get along with her?

Arjun Chakraborty– Initially we hardly knew other. But in the course of the shooting we got to know each other and now we are good friends. Though she may be making her debut with this film, she is professional as far as her working style goes.

Can you share any funny incident that you had during the shooting of the film?

Arjun Chakraborty– When you have actors like Kanchan, Biswanath, Lama with you as co-actors, every shoot ought to have humorous incidents. During the late night shoots, many of us used to feel sleepy. But suddenly someone used to crack a joke and we all used to start laughing and get re-energized.

What is the next project that you are working on?

Ajun Chakraborty– I am currently working on two films titled Kokon Tomar Asbe Telephone and Auto Number 9696.

What are your expectations from the film ‘Janla Die Bou Palalo’?

Arjun Chakraborty– We actors have high expectations from all our films. But there is no fixed formula with the help of which we can achieve success. However we have all worked hard, especially our director Aniket Chattopadhyay. It will be very gratifying if the audience appreciates our hard work and the film becomes a success.

Team Sholoana Bangaliana wishes the cast and crew of Janla Die Bou Palalo all the best and hopes that the producers Jalan Ineternational Films Pvt Ltd along with the entire team of the film will get to celebrate overwhelming success this Diwali.
