Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela set to release; Deepika and Ranveer Dance in Kolkata Press Conference (Video)

Deepika-padukone and Ranveer Singh

Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, the new commercial Bollywood Hindi movie by director Sanjay Leela Bhansali is ready to hit the theaters on November 15 and the movie’s lead pair Ranveer Singh and India’s new Dream Girl Deepika Padukone (Ram and Leela) are now on a promotion spree juggling schedules and hopping from one city to the other promoting their film.

ram-leela press meet

As a part of the promotional campaign for Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, this happening duo was in Kolkata today, November 12th to interact with the press and reach out to their audience. As was expected, as soon as this lovely couple entered the conference hall the sea of photographers present went into a click frenzy and with the crowd going berserk Deepika and Ranveer themselves had to take up the task of crowd management and request everybody present to calm down and begin the press conference.

Deepika Padukone

While most of the talking about the film was done by Deepika, Ranveer spent his time praising his gorgeous and very talented co-star. Talking about her experience of working with Sanjiay Leela Bhansali Deepika said that this was an altogether new learning for her as his style of making films is absolutely different. Ranveer also added to this and said that Sanjay Leela Bhansali may be known as a tough task master but an actor who wants to work, learn and explore his capabilities would never mind working and slogging with him as he has this ability of squeezing out just the best out of an actor.

There has been news about various socio-political groups opposing the content of Ram-Lela and when asked about her reaction on this, Deepika said that the mere fact that the movie has been passed by the censor board implies that it is in alignment with all societal norms and does not hurt the sentiments of any community or group in any manner and adding to that she also stressed on the fact that the art called cinema is inherently meant to entertain people and not to hurt anyone so how can such allegations ever hold ground.

While in the press meet many aspects of why people should watch Ram-Leela were discussed the loudest cheers came from the audience when Deepika said that she has always wanted to play a Bengali lady in one of her movies as she loves the way Bengali women dress, look and follow their traditions. Deepika also added that during her modeling days time and again she used to be mistaken for a Bengali owed to her big round eyes.

Ranveer Singh

When asked about their expectations from the movie, Deepika and Ranveer echoed the same sentiments that they have put in their heart and soul into it and have given their best and would now like to leave it to the audience to judge.

The press conference ended on a high note with Ranveer dancing to the song Tattad Tattad and pulling Deepika onto the stage to shake a leg with him; again drawing the loudest cheers from the audience present.

Though the film looks promising enough, to the chagrin of many Deepika Padukone or for that matter Ranveer Singh and Sanjay Leela Bhansali fans, the film has surfaced from all the raging controversies and will be released as Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela

Is Kolkata giving a miss to Shahrukh Khan’s Chennai Express; The cheesy ‘lungi dance’ may be a saving grace

Chennao Express

Watched the much hyped, Chennai Express. The film’s story is about how Rahul(Shahrukh Khan), gets mixed up in the problems of Meenama (Deepika) and instead of going to Goa lands up in her village to help her. So far all looks well to the audience. The problem starts when SRK boards the train, Chennai Express. It is one mistake after another from here. It is from here the film becomes BOKWAS (Typically in the accent used by Deepika). Repeated references to his earlier films and making stale jokes of many popular scenes are not what one expects from SRK. The man is over the top in most of the scenes. I wonder where the actor who had done films like Chak De, Swades is? This is not the SRK I have grown up watching. Deepika looks good as the South Indian Girl and her accent sounds good. Looking for intellectual element in a Rohit Shetty film is not a good idea, I know that. But unlike his earlier films which were funny in a silly way, this one is unfunny.

The music is nothing out of the blue. The tribute song for Rajnikant “the lungi dance” is a cheesy output. The other item number 1,2,3,4 is slightly better than the other one. The music is simply not pleasing for the ears. The locales are good and have been shot beautifully. However this is a film and not a travel show. Why will one go to the hall simply to watch beautiful locales? The satellite and the internet have made it already possible to see them at home. Despite portraying the role of a sweet seller, SRK fails to mix sweetness in this film which turns out to be stale, bland. Board the train at your own risk because as the jokes which are doing the rounds say, “Chain nai express”.
