Son of well known muralist Alokemoy Datta and veteran fashion designer Sharbari Datta, Amalin Datta introduced a new fashion trend in the city with his new label titled Amalin.
His debut haute couture creation was showcased by celebrated models Indrani Dasgupta, Satarupa Pyne, Ushoshi Sengupta, Sona Goldar and Pallavi Das at Aqua, The Park Hotel on March 28, 2014. The high end fashion show showcasing Amalin Datta Designs was choreographed and presented by Fashion Guru Prasad Bidappa was had popular Tollywood actress Raima Sen walking the ramp as the showstopper of the evening in an Amalin ensemble.
Amalin’s creations are most appreciated for their contemporary styling and heady mix of art, music and mythology in all that he designs. Amalin takes pride in experimenting with earthy hues and draws his colors and shades from vegetable dyes and all that nature has to offer. He also works in close association with his craftsmen to create designs that have an international appeal.
Right from Zardozi to Aari Taari, all forms of designs are used by Amalin to create his unique designs that capture the beauty of nature in its most subtle forms. Amalin also takes pride in the fact that his products are designed and customized for individual demands and needs and are not mass produced for chain stores.
Along with Raima Sen who was the show stopper of the evening, several other Tollywood celebrities were seen occupying the front rows to cheer and encourage Amalin. Raima who is currently working on several new Bengali Movies like Manoj Michigan’s 89, Mainak Bhowmick’s Kolkata Calling and Hrid Majhare Opposite Tollywood Hero Aabir Chatterjee and Tripod Entertainment’s Bari Tar Bangla Opposite Saswata Chatterjee looked glamorous as ever in an Amalin outfit and post the show happily posed for photographs for the ever so eager shutterbugs.
Kingfisher, the King of good times announced the launch of the Kingfisher Ultra Bengal Fashion Week at a press meet held at the Tantra, The Park Hotel. Agnimitra Paul, Mimoh Chakraborty, Sonalli Sehgal, Gurpreet Singh, Jaya Mishra, Mona Pali were present at the announcement ceremony of this fashion week. The fashion week promises to bring the best of glamour and style.
The highlight of the announcement was the presence of the brand ambassadors- Sonalli Sehgal and Mimoh Chakraborty at the event. Over twelve designers including designers like Rocky S, Mona Pali, Jatinn Kochhar, Manoviaj Khosla will be showcasing their designs at the three day fashion extravaganza. Speaking on the occasion, Mimoh said “I feel proud to be coming back to the city where my father has risen to the heights of a superstar from a common man. I am also honored to be associated with such a fashion event”. Sonalli Sehgal on the other hand promised to brush up her Bengali which has become slightly “Rustic” and also to gorge on yummy Bengali food which she has been missing for quite some time now.
Agnimitra Paul who will be showcasing her designs on the first day of the fashion week was very excited to be a part of this fashion event. The pretty lady said “It is great that Kingfisher has taken this initiative of organizing this fashion show in the city. I will be focusing more on Bengali dresses like saris. My focus will be to show how a simple Chanderi sari or a traditional Bengali sari can increase the glam quotient of a woman. I will also be focusing more on the bright colors in this show”.
As part of this edition of Bengal Fashion Week, Kingfisher Ultra has announced a unique consumer engagement initiative which will give one lucky consumer a once in a lifetime opportunity to walk the ramp for one of the designers of the show. The contest #KFUltraShowStopper is routed through social media and can be accessed on Kingfisher’s Twitter and Instagram page.
Kingfisher Ultra Bengal Fashion Week is scheduled to be held from 21st to 23rd February 2014 and promises to bring the best of style and glamour.
Global Institute of Fashion Technology Kolkata also known as GIFT presented their 13th Annual Graduation fashion show-“Explodia -13” at Royal Banquet Hall in City Centre1, Salt Lake. Explodia -13 was a glamorous and eventful fashion competition in which the students showcased their creativity and passion for fashion designing. The judges of this show were Tollywood actor Rudranil Ghosh, Miss Chandrani Singh Flora (A well renowned designer who has showcased her work in the Wills Fashion week), Miss Sejal Kanoi (a young designer who designs luxury couture line for women, men) and MR. J. N. Vohra (honorable Secretary General of NIMA-PTU University).
“Explodia – 2013” endeavors to represent the fashion conscious with the latest and diverse fashion trends. Being a one of a kind show it proposes unique assistance for the students, designers and fashion industries. The best talents from the institute get to exhibit their work to the professional fashion fraternity which includes home based retail brands, fashion houses etc. This will provide an atmosphere which promises to be a predecessor that would bring about a new revolution in the fashion industry and it also provides an opportunity for all those associated with the professional fashion fraternity.
The Fashion Show had eighteen themes which include – Baby’s Day Out – (Children Party Wear Garments), Fairy Tales- (Theme based on Fairy tale Characters), Gothic-(Based on gothic films and stories this is an evil dark romantic inspiration), Greek Goddess- (inspired from the 5 Greek goddess of war and love), After Shock- (Avante garde creation with non- commercial creative look inspired from the after effects of Earthquake) and many more.
The show highlighted the best creative couture collection, best prêt-a- porter collection, best commercial collection with accessories and props to match with the garments and dynamic and international standard high class models like Madhvilata, Ishika, Subhomita and many others.
The Winners of this competition are Best Commercial- Fairy Tales, Best Creative – Gothic, Internal Jury – tie between two themes Greek Goddess & Shahnai, Best Promising Line – After Shock, Best Overall theme Presentation – Potochitra.
