New Bengali Film Sajarur Kanta directed by Saibal Mitra is based on Saradindu Bandopadhyay’s novel by the same name. A press meet was held recently at DKS Club where director Saibal Mitra, Indraneil Sengupta, Konkona Sen Sharma, Dhritiman Chaterji, Biswajit Chakraborty, Dwijen Bandopadhyay, Kanchana Moitra and Debdut Ghosh were present.

“After the string of films being made on Byomkesh Bakshi, there has been a general curiosity among many people as to why Byomkesh is old in my film. The fact is I wanted to show that the sleuth left the profession only to return back years later. Hence the age gap” said the director. Dhritiman Chatterjee who is playing the role of Byomkesh in this film added that this film will be different from the other films on the detective.

The film Sajarur Kanta apart from having a mystery to solve also has a love angle to the main story. This gives this Bengali Movie a different angle also. The love story involves Dipa(Konkona Sen Sharma) and Debasish(Indraneil Sengupta). Dipa is a theatre actress and Debasish’s wife. Initially scared as she was not too sure about the motivations of Dipa, Konkona nevertheless has given her best in the movie.

Biswajit Chakraborty plays the role of Nripati. “Apart from being an actor in the theatre group, he is more of the organizer in the theatre group. From arranging for funds to resolving disputes, my character does them all. He is like the problem solver for the group” said the actor. Competent and comfortable are the two words the actor used to describe the director.

Theatre has been given much importance in this New Bengali Film Sajarur Kanta, much to the liking of actor Debdut Ghosh who is actively involved with theatre. He plays the role of a theatre actor Sujan in this film. Kanchana Moitra plays a complex character named Subhra. Subhra wanted to make it big as an actress but fails to achieve her aim.

A poem by Sukumar Ray has been used by music director Tejendra Narayan Majumdar in the film in the form of a song in the new Kolkata Bengali movie Sajarur Kanta. The song has been sung by Saikat Mitra. The song will be shot in a night club.

Sajarur Kanta raises high expectations among the audiences. We fervently hope it delivers a good result when the film releases.

Sharadindu Bandopadhyay’s novels cannot be termed as simply detective novels but they also reflect a wider socio-political scenario of the then society. The stories are a mirror image of the society. Based on a story by the writer Saradindu Bandopadhyay, Upcoming Bengali Film “Sajarur Kanta” is now been shot by director Saibal Mitra for the big screen. The shooting of this film is going on at a New Garia Studio. The shooting sequence which took place involved Byomkesh Bakshi (Dhritiman Chattopadhyay) and Dipa (Konkona Sen Sharma) in a confrontation scene at a party held at Dipa’s house.

“I did not decide to make the film out of my own discretion. Rina Di (Aparna Sen) gave me the idea actually to make this film on this Byomkesh story. The idea was given to me during 2004-2005. This was before Byomkesh Bakshi stories gained so much popularity among the film makers. I do not have any plans however of making any series on the sleuth. There is a love story along with the detective story” said director Saibal Mitra. There is a modern touch given to the main story without hampering much the main content of the story. Improvisations however have been done to the story. For instance Byomkesh features less in the main story but features more in this story.

Indraneil Sengupta plays the role of Debasish while Konkona Sen Sharma plays the role of his wife, Dipa. Dhritiman Chattopadhyay plays the role of Byomkesh Bakshi in the film. Apart from that, the other actors who essay important roles in the film are Debdut Ghosh, Kaushik Sen, Biswajit Chakraborty and many others.

The music of the film has been composed by Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar and Saikat Mitra has lent his voice to the song in the film.

The shooting of this film has been done in various parts of the city. The director expects the film to release after the Durga Pujas.

Mishawr Rawhoshyo team meets the press; Audio CD launch accompanied the press meet

Prosenjit Chatterjee

Srijit Mukherji’s new Bangla Movie Mishawr Rawhoshyo is set to release on October 11th and the team met the press on October 2nd in hotel Grand Oberoi Kolkata to talk about the movie and share their experience of working on the same. Present at the press conference were Director Srijit Mukherji, Tollywood hero Prosenjit Chatterjee, Aryan, Tridha Chowdhury, Neel, Music director Indraadip Dasgupta along with lyricist Srijato.

Tollywood’s beloved Bumba Da (Prosenjit Chatterjee) who promptly addressed the press started with thanking the producers Shree Venkatesh Films for again coming forward to support a movie of such grand scale. He even said that right from the days of Chokher Bali when no producer was confident about investing in Bengali films, SVF had the foresight to take up the challenge and has since then been churning out one hit after the other and breaking the slump that keeps creeping into Tollywood.

Prosenjit Chatterjee who plays the role of Kakababu in the movie also seemed quite excited about the project. He even said that though he has worked in so many films over the years, this project will always remain special to him. Prosenjit also shared with the press his experience of shooting in Egypt at a time when the land was not at all safe. He even said that till the time they had boarded the plane, family and friends kept texting and calling trying to dissuade them from going but the team was determined and they went, shot and returned home safe. Tollywood’s very own Bumba Da also spoke about his experience of working with Srijit who has this strange habit of getting restless and super anxious to present the movie on screen as soon as the idea takes shape in his mind; the whole journey of making Mishawr Rawhoshyo was thus a whirl wind affair. Prosenjit also said that essaying the role of Kakababu was quite a task for him too as here the expectations would be really high as Kakababu is one character who is omnipresent in almost every household of Bengal.

Srijit Mukherjee

Speaking to the press, Srijit Mukherji, who is known as one of the most prolific directors of today also thanked Shree Venkatesh Film for their support and even said that it is only SVF that he could trust with the presentation of such an epic movie as only they have this rare trait of completely trusting their directors and their creativity.

Srijit has time and again said that Mishawr Rawhoshyo will act as a historical record of the present day turmoil in Egypt as the backdrop of this film is Egypt of 2013. While keeping the plot and essence of a Kakababu adventure intact, Srijit has indeed molded the story in his own way to suit the taste of the cine goers of today. It is also this subtle twist in the tale that has brought about the character of Rini played by Tridha Chowdhury with a romantic angle when the original story only talks about Santu and Rini’s friendship. Srijit, time and again urged the audience to come to the theaters to watch this movie as all the hard work of one whole year will be justified only if the audience appreciates the efforts that have gone into making this movie.

Aryan who is playing the role of Santu was also all praises for the director and said that he is very thankful to Srijit Mukherji for not only casting him in the movie but also for allowing him an opportunity of assisting with direction. Aryaan is quite excited about the movie and is quite hopeful about its success too.

Tridha Chowdhury

The love interest of Santu in the movie Rini, played by the beautiful Tridha Chowdhury also spoke to the press and expressed her gratitude towards the team of Mishawr Rawhoshyo and said that getting an opportunity to share screen space with stalwarts like Prosenjit Chatterjee right in her debut film is definitely her good fortune and she has tried to give her best in this movie.

Mishawr Rawhoshyo

The music of the film, as expressed by the lyricist, composer and singer alike is larger than life and the audience will surely be able to connect with it. The press conference was also accompanied with the formal launch of the Audio Cd of Mishawr Rawhoshyo.

From the trailers that have been released and the excitement that can be evidently seen in the team members of Mishawr Rawhoshyo the expectations from the movie have increased manifold and the whole of Bengal seems to be eagerly waiting for October 11th to watch the mystery unfold.
